General
These procedures set out the definition of an employee, the required elements of
the pre-employment screening process and the role of the Human Resources
Department in determining candidate suitability.
2.
Definitions
Employee
An employee is an individual who works on the permanent, probationary or
casual staff, on a full-time or part-time basis for the Upper Grand District School
Board for the specified or an indeterminate period of time. Salary or wages are
paid to this individual and from this payment deductions are taken for the Canada
Pension Plan, Income Tax and Employment Insurance.

Individuals who have left the employ of the Board and return to employee
status within one (1) year are exempt from this policy.
Pre-employment Screening Elements Required

a full Police Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Screening Check
(VSSC) no more than six (6) months old

appropriate certification, as required

The Human Resources department will examine the Police Record Check.
If there is a concern, a meeting will be held with the candidate before a
recommendation to hire is made.
