Do not reply to an email message OR fill out a web form with your password. Phishing Phishing is an attempt to acquire information (and sometimes, indirectly, money) such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Legal = Illegal = WSSU Policy on illegal downloading • • • It is the policy of Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) that network connections may not be used to violate copyright laws. If identified by internal security mechanisms or if an artist, author, publisher, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), or a law enforcement agency notifies the university of a violation of copyright laws, Information Technology will provide to the University Attorney and the Dean of Students information in the form of Internet Protocol (IP) address information, MAC address, appropriate log entries, location of computer, and any identifying information needed to assist in the investigation of the complaint or in response to a court order for identification of the user. Students whose computers have been identified as violators will be blocked from the university network and the Student must come to the Technology Support Center to have the offending copyright materials and the application removed from the device. Once the copyrighted materials and applications are removed, the student will be granted access back to the University network.
