Job Description
Job Title:
Plant/Production Manager
Reports to: General Manager
Revised: 9-11-15
Summary: The Plant/Production Manager is responsible for the planning and coordination of the
production process from the final design stage through shipment. The Plant/Production Manager will
be responsible for managing all functions of the day-to-day production process including Job & Bed
Planning, Mold Shop Fabrication, and Production within all plant areas. Under the direction of the
Plant/Production Manager, projects are efficiently and effectively managed to maximize profitability.
Accountabilities:

PLANNING / SCHEDULING: Leads planning for production and scheduling of crews for all 4
production areas (Bldgs 1, 2, 3, and Mold Shop). Sets a sense of urgency, determines priorities and
ensures ongoing effective communications of all personnel. Determines expected hours on each job
and product prior to production. Sets up each job with materials and labor in advance to facilitate
productive work flow.

PRODUCTION OPERATIONS: Manages all employees and production operations. Maintains
production schedule to maximize productivity and deliver low cost results. Define and eliminate
waste, work to implement 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing processes.

QUALITY: Along with the Quality Department, works to build a “quality minded workforce” in all
areas of the Company. Sets the expectation to produce high quality architectural and precast
concrete products.

JOB PROFITABILITY & GROWTH: Has overall accountability for job profitability. Sets and
communicates expected hours for labor and crews and compares to actual labor on a day-by-day
and job basis. Makes changes and enhancements to improve the production flow and operation to
increase profitability.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT: Keeps safety at the forefront of all operations, models the safe
way and ensures all policies and safety and/or environmental procedures are in place and
enforced. Ensures any outside agency reporting is completed in an accurate and timely fashion.

TEAM DEVELOPMENT: Responsible for hiring, performance evaluation, and training of production
personnel. Works with General Manager and Human Resources to set new policies, procedures,
and best practices, ensuring all policies and procedures are enforced.

TEAM COLLABORATION: Assist sales, engineering, estimating, and design staff in strategizing
and building effective and efficient processes.

PLANNING / SCHEDULING (PRE-PRODUCTION)






Leads pre-planning process with staff to ensure key production components including crews,
equipment, materials and hardware.
Plans and schedules all jobs and sets priorities for optimal efficiency, taking into consideration,
customer demands, change orders, design, mold shop, production, capacity and profitability of
the business.
Accountable for the scheduling and tracking of all projects from “ready to produce” through post
pour check.
Maintains up-to-date daily planning and scheduling boards for all areas of the business including
start date, end date, mold shop, production, and quality control.
Works with Mold Shop supervisor to plan the most efficient and optimally designed molds on a
job by job basis. Determine the “best fit” materials to be used to optimize efficiency, cost, quality,
and re-use if necessary.
Along with Operations Manager, sets planned and targeted inventory levels and re-order points
for all commonly used materials.
PRODUCTION / OPERATIONS OF PLANT, MOLD SHOP










Accountable for leading production to meet or achieve targeted goals set by the management.
Manages all production departments’ personnel and processes to maximize productivity and
become a low cost facility.
Utilizes strong leadership skills to manage the daily production schedule, holding daily
production meetings to check on progress and communicate daily, weekly and upcoming needs
to maintain and/or adjust schedule, mix, molds or process to meet customer needs and
profitability.
Ensures updated job information is readily available to employees, issued daily and always up to
date.
Scheduling boards will have job, shift, daily and weekly goals posted and actual performance vs.
goal is posted and communicated.
Improves upon processes and procedures to enhance the daily operation.
Identify areas of waste and opportunities to streamline all operations.
Establishes lean principles and flow manufacturing into the workplace to improve productivity
and reduce cost.
Communicates daily with crew to set expectations and hold them accountable to do their job.
Continually looking for improvements to all processes in order to become more cost efficient,
implementing changes as necessary.
QUALITY CONTROL

Ensure that quality control standards are met and procedures are adhered to during all
production processes to guarantee high quality in our architectural and structural precast concrete
products.

Work closely with the Quality Department to prevent problems from happening and assist in
solving them with they do occur.

Work will all production employees to build a “quality minded” workforce, as well as in all areas of the
company, focusing on continual growth and improvement of QC processes on an ongoing basis.

Responsible for profitability for all production areas, achieving or exceeding expected
daily/monthly/annual goals determined by management.

Works with management to develop opportunities for growth, bring new ideas on panels and
other precast products, and capitalize on facility improvements.
Responsible for leading the production organization to achieve a low cost, profitable operation,
building a fast-paced team culture, and creating a profitable, growing company.







Keeps safety, environment and housekeeping as #1 priority for the workplace and all employees.
Creates, implements and manages safety principles and practices as a core component of the
workplace.
Holds weekly tool box talks with all crews with signed document of completion.
Ensures all employees understand that organization and neatness is a way of life. “A place for
everything and everything in its place”.
Safety and housekeeping must be “visual” within the operation and office environment at all
times. “Tour ready” is the term to use every day.
Holds monthly safety meetings with crews and staff, highlighting performance and new safety
techniques.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT









Along with HR, interviews and hires employees for all production areas.
Works with HR to conduct timely performance reviews for all employees under direction,
ensuring training and skill levels are documented.
Provides guidance and discipline of employees when needed. Maintains documentation of all
employee discussions and reviews in employee personnel files.
Optimizes crew skill sets to work cross-discipline in the production areas and make changes as
necessary.
Sets expectations of crew and employees and ensures they are clearly explained and
understood by all individuals.
Ensure that ongoing training is provided to employees to perform their duties and that all
documentation is kept in employee personnel files.
Ensure employees clearly understand quality expectations and that quality is built into product
manufacturing.
Works with management to set new policies and procedures, best practices, ensuring that all are
enforced.
Work to create a fun work culture, one that promotes camaraderie, motivation, and an
environment where employees enjoy their jobs and like coming to work.

Works with other departments to help enhance all areas of the business, including sales,
