• Government is the institution through which a society makes
and enforces its public policies.
• Politics: the art or science of winning and holding power
• Ideology: coherent set of beliefs and values (what the
government should and should not do)

GOVERNMENTS
(CONSTITUTION)
The main purposes of government are described in the Preamble of the
Constitution of the United States:
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect
Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the
common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings
of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this
Constitution for the United States of America.”
