2014 Tennessee State Special
Olympics Horse Show
Saturday, October 18th, 2014
9am at the Tri-State Exhibition Center
September 12, 2014
Dear Area Programs,
The Tri-State Therapeutic Riding Center would like to invite your riders to participate in this year’s Tennessee
Special Olympics Horse Show held at the Tri-State Exhibition Center. We are excited to host this event for our
amazing riders to show their skill throughout Tennessee! This is a show specifically for Special Olympics
Competitors—Riders must be able to hold reins and attempt in order to participate, this is not an exhibition.
Please be aware of the qualifications of a special Olympic athlete. Every May we hold the Ride- A- Test Show
which is open to ANY rider at ANY age with a disability.
We are offering a wide variety of classes for riders to participate. Please familiarize yourself with the rules of
each discipline offered in Special Olympics—we will be offering dressage, English equitation, western
equitation, English and western trail, and showmanship at halter. Make sure you read over the specifications of
what will be asked per class. Attached are the courses that are offered. Riders cannot cross divisions and can
ride in no more than 3 classes.
Eligibility To be eligible to participate in Special Olympics, athletes must have an intellectual disability; a
cognitive delay, or a development disability, that is, functional limitations in both general learning and adaptive
skills. Participation in Special Olympics starts at age 8 years, and there’s no maximum age limit. Children with
intellectual disabilities ages 2 through 7 can take part in the Young Athletes program, either at home or
through a nearby Special Olympics program. People without intellectual disabilities can take part in Unified
Sports, teams that mix people with and without intellectual disabilities. No child may participate in Special
Olympics statewide competitions before his or her eighth birthday.
All riders must have the Special Olympics athlete forms filled out and on file with your local Special
Olympics office. Deadline to register is October 10th—please visit www.tristatetherapeuticriding.org to fill
out your online registration!
We look forward to your attendance! Please if you have any questions please contact Denise Lineberry at
reinbowriders@gmail.com or call 423-244-7577.
Sincerely,
Denise Lineberry
