Weekly Communication
Every night your student will bring home a homework binder,
which will contain homework papers, and any important papers
from school. Your student will also bring home a homework
planner / AGENDA. Please look at the binder and agenda
nightly. Please also feel free to send me a note on the agenda, as
I will be checking them daily. Lost or destroyed homework or
agenda's will not be replaced due to copying cost and time
constraints.
I will also communicate important class and school information
in the weekly newsletter called The Sweet Life in Third Grade.
Important Information
Contact information:
*School phone- 755-2872 you may leave a voice mail if I’m not
available. I will be available before and after school by phone or
in person.
*Email - tfedermeyer@twinrcs.org
* Notes -can be put into your child’s agenda
Absences
Please write a note, call the office or send an email when your
child has missed school. If you know ahead of time that your
child will be absent, please notify me and I will prepare an
independent study contract. To prepare an independent contract
I will need to have at least 24 hours notice. If your child is sick
their make-up work will be given when they return.
* I cannot stress enough the importance of attendance. We
are very busy in third grade and when a child misses school
he/she loses direct instruction. Please be sure to have your
child at school on time and ready for the educational day
unless they are sick.
Homework Policy
Homework is an important part of your child's education. It
gives him/her the extra practice needed to master the skills
taught in class. Homework should not take longer than 30-45
minutes per night. If an assignment is taking longer, please go
ahead and stop after 45 minutes and write a note in students
agenda. Typical homework during the year will consist of
spelling, math homework and nightly reading. Your child may
receive assignments and special projects for other subjects
throughout the year. These will be noted on their agenda. Math
homework will be collected the day after it is assigned. Spelling
will be collected on Friday mornings. Students are responsible
for turning in completed work. Students who do not turn in
homework will need to complete them during recess.
Grading Scale
Graded assignments are given a letter grade. The following
percentage is used to determine the letter grade for the
assignment.
A- 90-100%
B-80-89%
C-70-79%
D-60-69%
F-59% and below
Healthy Snacks
Our snack time is at10:30 students are encourage to
bring a nutritious snack to eat. Some suggestions are:
fruit, vegetables, cheese and crackers, pretzels, granola bars,
applesauce, bagels, or trail mix.
Water
You may also send in a water bottle with a lid. Only water is
allowed at their desk.
Hot Lunch
Our school provides hot lunch. Please place orders a week in
advance. Hot lunch forms must be turned into the front office
by Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. No Hot Lunches the first week
of school. Students are not to call home for forgotten lunches but
if a parent brings a forgotten lunch they may take it to the office
(please do not bring it to the classroom).
Birthdays
When celebrating birthdays in our class, I will be
requesting that parents send in or come into the
classroom to make a special snack with the
students. This is optional of course. I would like to keep these
snacks nutritious. For example, some ideas for making a special
nutritional snack for/with the class would be: celery bugs,
pudding, fruit salad, small sandwiches, vegetables and dip, and
bagels with cream cheese. Please contact me to arrange a time
that would be convenient and to discuss snack possibilities. I
usually try to limit cookies, cupcakes and other sweet snacks.
Since children form eating habits early in age I think it’s
important to limit these items at school. Since our learning time
is so important I request that birthday disruptions are kept to a
simple snack. Balloons are very disruptive to the learning
environment and will not be permitted in the classroom.
* All items must be store bought and cannot be homemade.
Behavior Plan
Every child has the right to learn just as I have the right to teach.
In our classroom students are empowered to be part of building
a positive environment. We create a social contract together in
the first week of school and students and (the teacher) utilize the
contract to hold each other accountable for how they want to be
treated throughout the year.
Attendance and Drop-off/Pick up Schedule
School begin every day at 8:30 a.m. Please make ever attempt
to bring your child to school on time as their success depends on
their presence in class. School ends at 3pm except for
Wednesday's early release at 1:00. Please pick your child up on
time. If your child has not been picked up within fifteen
minutes of the end of school, the emergency contacts listed on
your child's emergency card will be called.
For safety reasons please do not honk or yell to your child from
the car. Students must be supervised at all times on campus or
church grounds. Please do not take your child out of line or
leave without telling the teacher. Students are not allowed to
walk through the parking lot without an adult. Siblings are to
also check with teacher before taking student.
