Students begin to understand how families lived long ago and how they live in other cultures. They develop concepts about how the world is organized spatially through beginning map skills. Changes of position of an object are a result of pushing or pulling. • Life Science: Basic needs of Living Things This topic focuses on the physical needs of living things in Ohio. We grow thinkers by immersing all students in a school-wide culture committed to the development of thinking skills through thoughtful engagement with big ideas and complex problems. Communicates ideas with confidence Within our classroom, we will be offering enriching, challenging, collaborative, problem based activities to stretch students! It’s Snack Time! Our class will have an afternoon snack. Each student is responsible for bringing his/her own snack each day if desired. Due to some food allergies in our building, we have narrowed our snack choices to the following five (5) items or categories. - Cheese squares or string cheese - Plain Cheerios - Plain Pretzels - Vegetables- carrots, celery sticks, peppers, etc - Fruits- (cut up, finger food) grapes, blueberries, raisins, apple slices, etc Students must be able to eat the food with their fingers and open their own snack bags so please make sure they are packaged appropriately. We don’t have time to peel fruit. Students may bring in a water bottle to keep in their backpack. No other drinks are permitted in the classroom. Thank you so much for your cooperation :) Special Shares • Part of our Ohio academic learning standards in Language Arts (Speaking and Listening) Program will be graded for the report card. • 4 times a year, a new theme will be assigned. • Please work with your child in developing a 2-3 minute presentation. • They may present their share anytime during the scheduled week. Star Student • Each week, we will have a different star student so that we can learn a little more about everyone in the classroom. • Monday – Share poster – A poster will come home that your child can work on to share with the class. • Tuesday – sit anywhere in the room to do work or sit in special chair for class meetings and lessons • Wednesday – bring in a favorite book to share with the class • Thursday – bring a special object in a bag and students can ask yes/no questions to figure out what is in the bag • Friday – take home Mouse or Moose, to write and draw pictures about I will send an email home letting you know when your child will be the star student!
