Vocabulary
Root word (base word) –
a word with no prefixes or suffixes
A root word can stand on its own as a word, but you can make new words
from it by adding (beginnings) prefixes and (endings) suffixes.
Affixes a group of letters in front of a word or at the end of a word used to change
the meaning of that word
Prefix –
a group of letters in front of a word that change the meaning of the word
Suffix –
a group of letters at the end of a word that change the meaning of the word
What is a suffix?
A suffix is a word ending that changes the meaning of the root word.
A word part that is added to the end of a root word.
A group of letters added to the end of a word to form a new word.
Common Suffixes
