Solving Rational Equations and
Inequalities
Equations that contain one or more rational
expressions are called rational equations.
Steps:
 Multiply each term on both sides of the
equations by the LCD of the terms.
 Simplify and solve the resulting polynomial.
 Always check answers for extraneous solutions!!
