Guidelines for Final Exam
Math 1050-002 (Summer 2002)

Note: The Final exam will take place in AEB 350(Our classroom) at 7:30 on August 8, 2002
10 questions will be given at Final exam. You should pick 8 questions to answer out of 10.
1. You should be able to find the partial fraction decomposition of the given rational expression. For example, See
1,3,7,9,39 (P. 277)
2. Understand horizontal ,vertical asymptotes. you should be able to sketch the graph of the rational expression. For
example, See the problems 113, 117(p. 282)
3. One problem from finding zeros of the given polynomial. For this you need to know factoring,synthetic division,
complex numbers. For example, see problems 23(p. 253), 66(p. 241), 21(p. 233)
4. One problem about shifting,reflecting and sketching the transformed graph. See 4,5(p. 158)
5. Solving Inequalities and equations. 125, 127(p. 72),134(p. 59)
6. Function definition, domain, composition of two functions. 59, 81(p. 135), 41, 49(p. 169)

example, # 67 ,# 70, #71 on page 297.
14. You need to know graphs of logarithmic functions. For example, # 55, # 58, # 62 on page 307
15. Practice about properties of logarithms and exponential to solve equations. For example, # 56, # 60 on page 315
and #21, # 54, # 56, # 95,# 105 on page 324-325.
16. You need to practice ways of solving system of linear equations: Method of substitution, Gaussian elimination,
Gauss-Jordan elimination.
For example, See Example 9 on page 643 and # 51, # 62, # 69 on page 632.
17. Practice how to find solutions using inverse matrix. For example, # 45 and # 49 on page 656.
18. Practice examples about finding maximum or minimum of objective function under some constraints. For example,
# 41, # 43 on page 609.
19. Practice some examples about using Cramer’s rule to solve system of linear equations. For example, # 3 and # 5
on page 675.
20. Understand and practice how to find a linear equation of line crossing known two points by using determinant.
For example, # 37 and # 41 on page 676.
