ROMEO AND JULIET PROJECT 50 Points Possible Choose one from the following options. These will be presented to the class: Project #1: Create the front page of an Elizabethan newspaper detailing the events of the play. Write a story for each of the acts (five main events) and put them in journalistic format. Make sure the stories are accurate and error free—that includes neatness, spelling and grammar. Be creative! Make it look old by dyeing it with coffee or tea, wrinkle or fray the edges. You can type it in Old English font or hand write it NEATLY (typing is preferred). You must have at least five stories and a masthead. Project #2: Create a diary for Romeo or Juliet. Chronicle the entire play in journal format. Try to predict and portray what they were feeling and thinking throughout the play. There are to be at least five entries, it must have a cover, and it must be true to the character. Again, be creative and check for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors! Project #3: Put a time capsule together. Gather or create at least 5 items (if working with a partner, 10 items) that symbolize the events of the play. Think of items that characters from the play may have added if they were burying the time capsule; be unique and show analytical thinking with your choices. On 3x5 note cards, explain each item and its significance to the play; then, write a quote from the play that correlates with that item. (You should make one note card for each item.) Decorate the capsule to appropriately represent the play—be creative! Project #4: Choose a scene from the play to perform with a partner. Lines must be memorized, and you should use appropriate props and/or costumes. You will be scored on volume, accuracy of lines, facial expressions, and movement. Each person will be scored separately—no group grades. Project #5: Make a video of a performance from the play. This has the same guidelines as project #4, except that it will be videotaped and edited. It will be shown the day of presentations. Note: You may work with ONE partner on any of these projects. This must be someone you are able to work with outside of class. If you choose to do so, you are to submit with your project a note card explaining in detail the contribution of each person to the project. You may be questioned if I suspect that one person did all or most of the work.
