Romeo and Juliet Diary Assignment

Mini EN 9
Romeo and Juliet Diary Assignment
Ms. Vadacchino
Act 1
Imagine you are EITHER the character of Romeo or Juliet. You must write TWO diary entries in
the voice of that character. The first entry should be written BEFORE the ball and the second
AFTER the ball. In your entry, you must include ALL the events that happened to your character
in Act 1 (because all of it actually happens in one day) and how they felt about those events – this is
the most important part. This assignment is not meant to be a summary – it’s meant to be a
character analysis. Show me his or her feelings. Feel free to choose the character of the opposite
sex - it might be fun! You do not have to write in Elizabethan English, exactly, but you cannot use
modern slang or modern expressions. Be true to the time period. You will be graded on your
understanding of the plot (don’t miss anything out), your understanding of your character (you
can’t have them do or say anything that I think would be out of character), style (is it interesting to
read?), grammar, spelling, and sentence structure. I will allow sentence fragments because this is a
personal diary entry. You may decorate your entries if you like.
You must TYPE or write in INK. Whichever you choose, you must DOUBLE SPACE.
