Dear 2013-2014 potential student council officer,
Congratulations on deciding to run for election into the 2013-2014 Farmington High School Student
Council. Simply going through this process, despite the outcome, will help you grow as a student and a person.
It takes a lot of courage to be willing to represent your peers. The skills that you gain working with FHS Student
Council will serve you for a lifetime.
Elections Process
Each candidate must:


Submit a petition with legitimate names from students……due 5/24/13 by 2:30pm to Mrs. Landheer
o
Students running for Class Office must submit 50 signatures from people ONLY in their class
o
Students running for Executive Office must submit 100 signatures from the entire student body
Submit a Speech………………………………………………due 5/24/13 by 2:30pm to Mrs. Landheer
o
Candidates running for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary must submit a 2 minute
or less speech regardless if they are opposed or unopposed
o

Candidates running for Delegate have the option of giving a speech
Submit 2 electronic Teacher Recommendations……..…. due 5/24/13 to Mrs. Landheer
o
Candidates must ask the teacher in person if he/she would be willing to fill out an electronic
teacher recommendation form
Speeches take place on 5/31/13 from 7:47-8:20am
Students will go to homeroom first, then to their designated areas for speeches. Candidates, come dressed
appropriately and bring a copy of your speech. You’ll meet the class advisers at the front and be seated.
 FRESHMEN: small gym
 SOPHOMORES: large gym
 JUNIORS: auditorium
Elections take place during per. 4-7 in the senior section of the cafeteria
As a candidate, it is prudent to participate in the voting process. Encourage others to vote during their lunch
wave. You may not campaign near the voting booths. Winners will be announced at 2:30pm on 5/31 outside the
student activity center in the café.
Campaigning
Candidates are allowed to make flyers to campaign for the elections. They have to be stamped by Mrs.
Petersen in the main office prior to being hung.
