Welcome to the IB Middle Years Program (MYP)! This exciting program provides a
framework of academic challenge that is based on MYP’s three fundamental concepts of
holistic learning, communication, and intercultural awareness. Throughout your academic
career, you will develop the traits of the IB learner profile: inquirer, knowledgeable, thinker,
communicator, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-taker, balanced, and reflective.
Course Overview
Drawing for Fashion is designed to prepare the students for further study in the area of fashion design, fashion,
illustration, textile design, and marketing. This course enhances the students understanding of the connections between
design and drawing, the basic elements of apparel, and media techniques used by fashion illustrators.
Aims:
The aims of the teaching and study of MYP Drawing for Fashion are to encourage and enable students to:
• Understand how the arts play a role in developing and expressing personal and cultural identities
• Appreciate how the fashion arts innovate and communicate across time and culture
• Become informed and reflective practitioners of the arts
• Experience the process of making art in a variety of situations
• Explore, express, and communicate ideas
• Become more effective learners, inquirers and thinkers
• Develop self‑confidence and self‑awareness through art experiences
• Appreciate lifelong learning in and enjoyment of the arts

Intercultural Understanding
Inter cultural understanding will be enhanced through the study of the art of a wide variety of cultures and
the context within which this art has been created.

Students are expected to bring the following materials to every class every day.

Grading/Assessment:
A (89.5-100%) - Outstanding level of achievement
B (80-89%) - High level of achievement
C (70-79%) - Satisfactory level of achievement
D (60-69%) - Low level of achievement
E (59% -50)- Failure
0 – If student does not attempt the work
Grades will be assessed in the following weighted categories40%: Art Projects
40%: in class activities, discussions, sketchbooks
10%: Reflections, critiques, and artist’s statements
10%--Homework
Minimum:
A minimum grade of 50% will be given for all assignments or assessments for which the student made a good faith
effort, as determined by the teacher. If a student does no work on an assignment or assessment, the teacher shall assign
a grade of zero.
Approximate expectations for assignments and assessments:
Homework- daily
Classwork- every other day
Major Projects- once per unit (every two weeks)
Parent Notification:
Parents will be notified at least three weeks prior to the end of a marking period if a student is currently earning a
failing grade. At any time, parents may check parentconnect.aacps.org to see their student’s grade. Please contact the
guidance office if you do not already have a login.
Late Work
Please turn in all work on the due date. For each day an assignment is late, the final assignment grade will go down by
10%.Work that is more than 5 days late will not be accepted.
Redo’s:
Students shall have ONE additional chance to improve their score on a major test or assessment/assignment (as
designated by the teacher). In order for this to happen the student MUST have submitted the original assignment
ON TIME and set up a time with the teacher for re-teaching within 5 days of getting the graded assignment back.
Within ten school days of receiving the returned original graded work, students must participate in the re-teaching
and then complete and submit the new assessment, activity, or assignment. The higher grade will be the grade of
record.
***********All student re-teaching will take place after school Tuesdays. Please endeavor to schedule
this meeting in advance so that we both are prepared. ********

Attendance/Tardiness:
 IF YOU ARE ABSENT, PLEASE CONTACT Ms. Ana Pendleton Duhon at aduhon@aacps.org to receive
your make up work.

All effort will be made to facilitate students when absent. Please make prior arrangements, if possible, to
collect work from the instructor for days that are to be missed.

It is the Annapolis High School expectation that all students will be on time. The policies for the tardy table
will be followed.
Academic Integrity
In order to promote the pursuit of academic excellence and learning, Anne Arundel County Public Schools expects its
students to conform to specific standards of academic integrity. Academic integrity is an integral part of promoting
self-respect, trust, student achievement, and positive relationships among all stakeholders in our school community.
Academic integrity means exhibiting honesty in all academic exercises and assignments. Academic dishonesty refers
to any form of misconduct that occurs in relation to all formal academic exercises.
Cell Phone Expectations
There will be appropriate times in class where electronic devices will be allowed to be out as a part of
classroom instruction or for the purposes of listening to music (one ear bud only). The appropriate times will
correspond with a green sign posted at the front of the classroom. However, the electronic device will be
confiscated and turned over to administration if the students are seen texting, social networking,
Snapchatting, taking pictures or video, playing games, or any other activity not involved in the academic
lesson. If this becomes a consistent issue in class, electronics privileges will be revoked.
A red sign will indicate when electronic devices are to be turned off and put away. Electronic devices are
never permitted within a testing environment. Any electronic device that is out when the sign is red will be
confiscated and turned over to administration.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Drawing for Fashion is a one semester class, and in this time I hope to get to know
your student and help them to develop new and creative ways of learning and connecting
to the world.
Please take time to save and send in with your child recycled products such as magazines,
newspapers, cardboard products, and plastic containers--these donations will be most appreciated.
In addition, the Art Fee is a critical source of funding for art materials, so kindly send in either
cash or check** with your child’s by September 12th.
