Vital that SWAC teacher establishes a
community of learners through bonding
activities– students need to feel they are part of a
whole
 Regular contact through texting and phone calls
would be advisable – students need to feel they
will be missed if they are absent
 SWAC teachers need to alert and sensitive to the
mental health needs of students (lagging
attendance may be an indication of an issue such
as anxiety) – make use of college counselling
services

