Well!!!! The programme has begun and the students range from Chief Inspectors to Constables and are from Jamaica, Guyana, Bermuda, Trinidad and other Caribbean countries. The Tutors are our very own! The concept of Community Policing is currently being used by the Trinidadian Government as a means of stemming gang based violence and crime overall in their country. We can proudly say we have made Community Policing our Philosophy and already we are seeing the benefit of this approach to policing communities. The participants in are beaming with enthusiasm as they like us want to make a difference in the communities they police and also how their communities are policed. Improving Communication Over the years the Force has been demanding an intranet system that will lessen the use of paper and improve the speed at which information is relayed. The Corporate Services Branch of the JCF is currently in dialogue with a service provider. The intranet system may not be immediately but it is a sure step towards technological advancement for the JCF. Strategic Command Course A senior leadership management development program is currently on way at the Staff College of the JCF with seventeen participants from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Island Special Constabulary Force, Jamaica Defence Force, Department of Corrections, Passport Immigration and Citizen Agency, and Fire Department. The participants will be exposed to appreciating the role of the security personnel in a changing society considering the need for strategic approaches and perspectives to security, the use of performance management through the use of key management principles, understanding and evaluating the context of public safety and security at the national, regional and international levels. These managers will also be exposed to maneuvering the craft of self assessment and translating this craft into personal effectiveness. The Strategic Command course comprises of six modules: 1.Strategic Perspectives which explores operational and tactical approaches in policing public spaces 2. Public Safety and Security seeks to equip and improve participant’s decision making skills 3. Leadership 4. Transnational Organized Crime and Counter Terrorism provides an appreciation for the threat from transnational organized crime, its players and its nature 5. Operational policing which look at contemporary policing with a multi-sectoral approach 6. Communication for senior manager will, focus on strategic aspects of managing the communication process. Inspired managers lead inspired men!!! Apology: Last week’s publication was plagued by technological glitches. Here is the correct publication with minor changes! Embracing change As the Jamaica constabulary Force continues to reforms its structural systems, improve culture and increase efficiency and effectiveness, it is simultaneously positioning itself and its members to strengthen their collective capacity to embrace the change. Any organization’s human resources are its biggest asset and we need to ensure our people in all ranks and positions can deliver the policing service the people of Jamaica want and deserve. Leadership and management skills are particularly important and need to be identified and honed. The new accelerated promotion programme has flung opened the doors of opportunity to young, highly motivated individuals from within the ranks who it is believed can and will influence change with innovation and style. 7 Change is never an easy undertaking for any organization especially when it was believed that the best and brightest were not attracted to the Force or whose contributions were not appreciated. The merger of the internal graduate entry programme along with the accelerated promotion programme were produced the hybrid of the New Accelerated programme. This programme is geared specifically for serving members of the Force. Attracting and retaining our best The new accelerated promotion programme commenced in September 2011 and will last for a full year. It is a four phased programme which will host only eighteen participants out of the over three hundred who applied. Currently, they are undergoing the first phase of their training. This stage includes psychology of self, protocol and etiquette. Some may say what is new about this, but quite frankly nothing is new under the sun. This is not new but it strengthens and reinforces the need to understand self and the environment in order to efficiently lead and manage resources. The best of what we have to manage resource is self, and the best resource to manage is human. When the human resource is efficiently managed then the result is even more rewarding. Optimum development occurs when an individual is healthy, showing physical and mental fitness, having a positive image of self, maintaining self knowledge, possessing appropriate coping skills. All these will be hone and cultured in the next twenty four months and beyond. Benefits Decision making, reasoning and critical thinking are paramount to leadership and any leadership programme. The New accelerated Promotion programme is one such programme that will guarantee a refocused style of leadership and management that is more geared towards a police citizen centric and responsive approach. The advantage of this programme is that it promotes young people in the service into influential positions in order that they will influence change through innovative styles. The JCF is a dynamic organization and will continue to respond to public demands and expectations!!!! Embrace the change!! You could be next for leadership! Instead of complaining about your lack of cash, establish how much money you actually have available to spend on healthy food. Make a budget regularly since other financial obligations in your life may fluctuate. Knowing your baseline will help you form realistic meal expectations. When cooking a big meal, make extra to freeze, or use later in the week for lunches or quick suppers. Double recipes, then freeze half. Save your vegetable trimmings to make your own vegetable stock. Not only do you save money, but vegetable stock also makes a nutritious base for casseroles, soups, and Crockpot cooking. Buying in bulk is almost always cheaper; you can freeze perishable items (such as meat, milk, and even bread) in smaller portions to use as needed. It’s always a good idea to buy non-perishable items in bulk (canned foods, dried beans and grains, etc.). Use less expensive cuts of meat for casseroles that you slow cook; add extra vegetables and beans to make the meal go further. Capitalize on one-pot dishes, which generally save prep time, money, and dishwashing, and often make great leftovers. Look high and low (literally) to find the less expensive generic or store brands on grocery shelves, often very similar to higher-priced brand names though packaged under different labels. Stores deliberately place the highest-priced brand-name items at eye level, but if you compare the cost per unit, you’ll be able to figure out the most cost-effective purchase. You can even try your own taste tests— blind, of course— to see where you can save money without sacrificing flavor. Take advantage of specials on staples—broth, soups, pasta, rice, canned veggies, even bread and meat. Many of these items have a long shelf life or can be frozen for short periods of time. No doubt you’ll still have days when you fall back on that quick-fix packaged food or the local burger drivethru. But if you look at cooking as an adventure, you’ll also have days when you find yourself pleased at what you’ve accomplished—as you serve dinner to rave reviews from family and friends! Note: Eating a healthy diet is the goal of many people. Whether the decision is reached due to current health problems or for preventative measures, a low budget shouldn’t stop you from reaching your goal. While it may be difficult to eat healthy on a low budget, the benefits of a healthy diet will outweigh the extra effort. Stop complaining about your budget and learn to incorporate healthy foods into your existing financial situation Source: www.bin BLONDE GAMBLING 9 One night a blonde woman was at a casino. She kept putting dollars in the machine and sodas kept popping out. A man behind her said "Can i use the vending machine please?" The blonde said "NO! Can’t you see I am winning here?" The man said "That’s a vending machine for drinks, not a slot machine." The blonde said "No it isn't!! You’re just jealous because I've won 9 million!"
