Prioritize draws us to Pray and Permit equips us to Protect, Prevent, Persevere, (Abide) and Provide prompts us to Praise and Preach 4 Prioritize ME your relationship with Christ MEss JesUS 5 Prioritize your relationship with Christ “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” Luke 18:16-17 6 Prioritize your relationship with Christ 7 Prioritize your relationship with Christ “…it doesn’t have to be well with your circumstances to be well with your soul.” Jennifer Rothchild 8 Pray confidently, without ceasing for your husband and your marriage "...many people struggle to learn how to pray because they are focusing on praying, not on God.“ “The criteria for coming to Jesus is weariness. Come overwhelmed with life. Come with your wandering mind. Come messy. Don't try to get the prayer right; just tell God where you are and what's on your mind. In bringing your real self to Jesus, you give him the opportunity to work on the real you, and you will slowly change." 9 Pray confidently, without ceasing for your husband and your marriage “We look at the inadequacy of our praying and give up, thinking something is wrong with us. God looks at the adequacy of His son and delights in our sloppy, meandering prayers.” "At the center of self-will is me, carving a world in my image. At the center of prayer is God, carving me in His son's image." A Praying Life by Paul Miller 10 Pray confidently, without ceasing for your husband and your marriage “Submitting yourself in prayer for your husband means ducking low enough so that God can reach Him.” Lysa Terkeurst 11 Pray confidently, without ceasing for your husband and your marriage “Your will be done” Brian mom dad “help me” “show me how to love” Megan “be still and know” Lauren “peace” 12 Pray confidently, without ceasing for your husband and your marriage Between you and God, prayer is a permanent connection with a constant dialogue. 13 Permit yourself and your husband to experience Sabbath rest “You don't create intimacy. You make room for it.” A Praying Life, Paul Miller 14 Permit yourself and your husband to experience Sabbath rest We both need to intentionally slow down, to say to God, “You are way more important than all I have going on here.” It’s realizing, we don’t need anything but Jesus. 15 Permit yourself and your husband to experience Sabbath rest “Most people mistakenly believe that all you have to do to stop working is just not work.” Gospel in Life, Tim Keller 16 Permit yourself and your husband to experience Sabbath rest “Sabbath is the deliberate limitation of productivity, as a way to trust God and be a good steward of yourself and your resources. The purpose of the Sabbath is to enjoy God, life in general, what you have accomplished in the world through His help, and the freedom you have in the gospel – the freedom from slavery to any material object or human expectation.” Gospel in Life, Tim Keller 17 Permit yourself and your husband to experience Sabbath rest “Only when we have identity, meaning and significance based in Jesus – something beyond our work – will we find deep rest for our souls, a rest that will abide with us in our work. Why? Only Jesus offers us a finished work to rest in. A Christian is someone who rests in Jesus’ finished work instead of his or her own.” Gospel in Life, Tim Keller 18 Permit yourself and your husband to experience Sabbath rest “We must have this deep spiritual rest, or else we will experience a weariness that vacations can’t cure.” Gospel in Life, Tim Keller 19 Prioritizing draws us to pray and permit The more I seek you, the more I find you The more I find you, the more I love you I wanna sit at your feet drink from the cup in your hand. Lay back against you and breath, hear your heart beat This love is so deep, it's more than I can stand. I melt in your peace, it's overwhelming 20 The More I Seek You, Kari Jobe (Abide) in God’s perfect plan while living in parentheses “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” John 15:4 21 (Abide) in God’s perfect plan while living in parentheses 22 Protect your husband’s reputation “Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.” Proverbs 13:3 23 Protect your husband’s reputation Choice A? OR Choice B? 24 Prevent your own struggles from harming your marriage “But for the grace of God” Alcoholics Anonymous 25 Prevent your own struggles from harming your marriage “From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2 26 Prevent your own struggles from harming your marriage “Who I am and what I struggle with are not the same thing.” Jennifer Rothchild “Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.” Psalm 51:7 27 Prevent your own struggles from harming your marriage “I’m learning things I never knew before. I’ve started to pray again. I have found my true joy.” Dan Cauble 28 Prevent your own struggles from harming your marriage Seems like all I can see was the struggle Haunted by ghosts that lived in my past Bound up in shackles of all my failures Wondering how long is this gonna last Then You look at this prisoner and say to me “son stop fighting a fight that’s already been won” Redeemed, Big Daddy Weave 29 Prevent your own struggles from harming your marriage I am redeemed, You set me free So I’ll shake off theses heavy chains Wipe away every stain now I’m not who I used to be I am redeemed Redeemed, Big Daddy Weave 30 Prevent your own struggles from harming your marriage All my life I have been called unworthy Named by the voice of my shame and regret But when I hear You whisper, “Child lift up your head” I remember oh God, You’re not done with me yet I don’t have to be the old man inside of me Cause his day is long dead and gone I’ve got a new name, a new life I’m not the same And a hope that will carry me home Redeemed, Big Daddy Weave 31 The 10 P’s Prioritize draws us to Pray and Permit equips us to Protect, Prevent, Persevere, (Abide) and Provide prompts us to Praise and Preach 32 Provide for your husband through loving service To Jen: “Ahhh! Please pray for me. I just totally blew it with Brian. In a matter of 20 minutes, I think I just failed at pretty much all of the P’s that I’m writing about in my message to share with SBS.” To Beth: “Sometimes our actions show what we truly believe. Your actions have to be rooted in belief, and this belief is a gift of the Holy Spirit.” 33 Provide for your husband through loving service “I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:24 34 Provide for your husband through loving service Love is patient, love is kind, it is not envious. Love does not brag, it is not puffed up. It is not rude, it is not selfserving, it is not easily angered or resentful. It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 35 Provide for your husband through loving service “We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 14:9 “Love is not a fight, but it’s something worth fighting for.” Warren Barfield 36 Provide for your husband through loving service “We instinctively know that love leads to commitment, so we look away when we see a beggar. We might have to pay if we look too closely and care too deeply. Loving means losing control of our schedule, our money and our time. When we love we cease to be the master and become the servant.” Love Walked Among Us, Paul Miller 37 Provide for your husband through loving service “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.” Philippians 2:3-8 38 Provide for your husband through loving service Hey honey, how’s your day going? I just wanted to check in with you. We have been so busy already today! Even though Benson was up every 2 hours last night, I got up before the sun and spent an hour doing my Bible study then I did 45 minutes of the “lose your mommy pooch” cardio and abs video. I’m getting the kids ready for school now – it was really hard to butter everyone’s toast this morning with one hand while standing and nursing Benson with the other arm, but I managed. The windchill is -25 degrees, so shopping the sales at both Target and Hyvee with 3 of our kids this morning will be tricky….but I’ll manage. I will be doing 6 loads of laundry today, interspersed with baking the meal for a SBS friend who just had a baby. I won’t forget that you need 5 shirts ironed for this week or that you are out of deodorant. I love you! Have a great day! 39 Provide for your husband through loving service “Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own “Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not a sinner like everyone else. For I don’t cheat, I don’t sin, and I don’t commit adultery. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, righteousness and scorned everyone else: returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 18:9-14 40 Provide for your husband through loving service “The first step toward God is realizing you are on the wrong path going the wrong way. Knowing we are inadequate before God and other people leads to compassion, but thinking we are good before God and others makes us self-centered and difficult to live with. The better we think we are, the less we can love. Love Walked Among Us, Paul Miller 41 Provide for your husband through loving service “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:5 “For all have for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23 42 Provide for your husband through loving service Pic of glasses 43 Persevere in the hard times, being strengthened by faith “When God believes in you, your situation is never hopeless. When He walks with you, you are never alone. When God is on your side, you can never, ever lose.” Barbara Johnson 44 Persevere in the hard times, being strengthened by faith Kara Robin Brooke Tracy Jaci Jessica Anna Steph Jodie Rebecca Betsy Tricia Bethi Beth Katie Nicole Julie YOU? 45 Persevere in the hard times, being strengthened by faith “Fear tells us that life is unpredictable, anything can happen, but faith replies quietly, “Yes, but God is in control.” Sheila Walsh 46 Persevere in the hard times, being strengthened by faith “Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:32-33 47 Persevere in the hard times, being strengthened by faith “God never gives strong faith without fiery trial; He will not build a strong ship without subjecting it to very mighty storms; He will not make you a mighty warrior if He does not intend to try your skill in battle…. If we have sharpened our swords on the cross, we have nothing whatever to fear ……” C.H. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15 52 Preach God’s Truths and Goodness “The joyful effects of the gospel in our own lives must give us an enormous energy for witness. How can we keep quiet about such a great wonder?” “We are freed from the fear of being ridiculed or hurt by others, since we already have the favor of God by grace.” Gospel in Life, Tim Keller 53 Preach God’s Truths and Goodness “There is humility in our dealings with others, because we know we are saved only by grace. “We are courteous and careful with people. We don’t have to push or coerce them, for it is God’s grace that opens hearts, not our eloquence or persistence…” Gospel in Life, Tim Keller 54 Preach God’s Truths and Goodness “And let us consider how we may spur one another on to love and good deeds.” Hebrews 10:24 55 Preach God’s Truths and Goodness Verse 1: When I lose my way, And I forget my name, Remind me who I am. In the mirror all I see, Is who I don't wanna be, Remind me who I am. In the loneliest places, When I can't remember what grace is. Chorus: Tell me once again who I am to you. Who I am to you. Submit your life to Christ. Draw close to Him through prayer and rest. Rely upon the Holy Spirit as you provide, protect, prevent, abide in parentheses, and persevere. When you recognize God’s work in your life, give Him all of your praise, and in all things, preach the truth of God’s amazing love. But when you fail, let grace be your redemption and humility be your friend. 63 The 10 P’s…. I’m forgiven because You were forsaken, I’m accepted, You were condemned. I am alive and well, Your sprit is within me, Cause You died and rose again. (Repeat x2) (Chorus) Amazing love, How can it be? That You, my King would die for me? Amazing love, I know it’s true. It’s my joy to honor You, In all I do, I honor You. I’m forgiven because You were forsaken, I’m accepted, You were condemned. I am alive and well, Your sprit is within me, Cause You died and rose again. You are my King (Repeat) Amazing Love, Billy James Foot 64
