POST: Support Worker HOURS: 30 pw x 4 SALARY: £7.40 per hour LOCATION: Eleanor Street Apartments REPORTS TO: Scheme co-ordinator JOB PURPOSE To provide support to 12 people who are tenants in their own apartments. The duties of the post will be determined by the individual needs of the users being supported. MAIN DUTIES To encourage and support tenants to live as fully and as independently in the local community. To assist and support tenants with the practical aspects of all daily living tasks in accordance with their individual care plans. To give medication prompts adhering to agreed service administration of medications policy and procedures. Manages individual health, safety and well-being following agreed risk management and care plan policies and procedures. Ability to use compassion, empathy and reassurance in relation to disability and mental health conditions. To provide a high quality person centred service and ensure that all individuals are encouraged to exercise their rights of choice, dignity, respect and equal opportunities. Page | 1 RESPONSIBILITIES Adhere to Safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the protection of vulnerable people from abuse. Encourages individuals’ in personal care needs. To be aware of the need to maintain complete confidentiality. To participate in mandatory and other training, evidencing continual professional development. To engage in agreed supervisions and performance development reviews in line with policies and procedures. To work independently within codes of practice whilst out in the community. EXPERIENCE / SKILLS Previous experience of working with adults with disabilities particularly those with a learning disability or mental health issues. Experience of working with individuals whose behaviour may be harder to handle. Knowledge of disability / mental health. COMMUNICATION Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written with individuals, carers and other professionals. Ability to effectively engage in and sustain working relationships. EDUCATION NVQ level 2 or equivalent or willingness to work towards a qualification. Willingness to undertake further training applicable to clients’ needs.
