Psychology: Toy Evaluation According to Piaget Assignment
Using Piaget’s stages of cognitive development, you are to visit a local toy store (or you can look online if you can find a complete
description of toys) and find an example of a good toy and a bad toy that would encourage (or not encourage) cognitive growth in
children for each of Piaget’s four developmental stages. Please write your observations in the chart below (continued on the back).
For each toy you evaluate, list the Toy Name, the Manufacturer, and the Price and give a brief description of how a child is to play
with the toy. Then, write a brief paragraph for why you feel the toy would be good or bad at encouraging cognitive development. Be
sure to support your answer by comparing the toy to the tasks that Piaget indicates are developing in children for each stage.
Remember, you are to give an example of a good and bad toy for each stage, so you will be evaluating a total of eight toys.
