Overview of French Grade 5 Student Expectations

Bonjour! Bienvenue à la classe de français!

Summer may be over, but don’t worry, we have

1) Read & review your Great French Student

Rubric which charts your participation many adventures to encounter. This year we will be studying French language and culture, as well as francophone cultures. Be prepared to embark upon many new, different and exciting experiences in French class. progress. Please keep your Unit Rubric out to use as a reference and self-assessment.

2) At the beginning of class, take out your

French binder notes and check the resource center for any updated hand-outs. Check the

Homework Board for any updated assignments. Write your assignments into your agenda book.

Course Outline:

Greetings and expressions

Classroom commands

Classroom objects, personal belongings

Months, days, dates, birthdates

Colors, numbers, alphabet

Likes and dislikes

Sports and activities

Travel questions and answers

Prices and currency

Francophone countries

Personal and character descriptions

Food items, clothing, and shopping

Classroom Expectations

We have expectations in order to allow each student the opportunity to learn and to create a safe place to learn. All students must follow these four expectations:

Be a Problem Solver

Be Respectful

Be Reliable

Be Responsible

3) Once seated, organize your work space.

Take out your weekly schedule and activity list.

Preview the day’s activities. Check for any notes from Madame. Place any corrected assignments into your French binder. Start your Do Now assignment(s).

4) Be ready for the benchmark/whole class lesson at the designated time(s). Stop and place all materials to the side. Open your class notes and face the front Epson board.

5) Complete all required assignments and tests in a timely manner. Bring the appropriate materials to class every day (binder, writing utensil, etc.).

6) Do not eat, drink, or chew gum (unless otherwise directed.) Utilize all opportunities to receive extra help. Be responsible for all class work and assignments that were missed due to an absence in a timely manner.

7) Make every effort to be successful! Speak

French and have fun!

Homework

Homework will be assigned occasionally. Most homework assignments will be checked in class while others will be graded at the teacher’s discretion.

Homework is due at the beginning of each class.

Homework Standards

1. Use complete sentences!

2. Write the following heading on each paper:

First and Last Name Date

French Grade 5 Assignment

3. The assignment is to be neatly completed on a sheet of lined loose-leaf paper without torn edges.

4. Any homework that does not meet the homework standards will be returned with no credit and you will not receive credit until you have satisfied the standards.

5. Do your best!

Absences from Class

1. Make-up work is the responsibility of the student.

2. In general, one day for each day absent will be given to make up assignments.

3. If you are absent on the day of a test, be prepared to take the test on the day you return.

If you have been absent for a length of time, you will make an appointment to take the test as soon as you return.

4. You will find any classwork and homework papers at the resource center. If you have a question, please ask a classmate first.

Madame is also available during mini-lessons, individually via the Help Board, and after school.

5. Place your make up work in the homework basket.

6. Extra help is available to make up work.

7. If you miss class for a lesson, rehearsal, field trip, etc. you must see me during the day to turn in homework and receive missed assignments. You are NOT excused from the day’s activities and lessons.

Other Expectations

A three-ring binder OR notebook & folder will be for all notes and hand-outs.

Handouts are expected to be hole- punched and placed with the corresponding notes. Class notes should be reviewed every day to prepare for the next day’s lesson. Homework and DO

NOW assessments will be provided each week. Other required supplies: Pens and/or pencils.

Extra Help

Extra help is offered after school from

2:45 – 3:15 pm in H101.

Please let me know, in advance, if you plan to stay after school for French.
