The Alternative Chinese Dream: Integrated Science, Spirituality and Healing Chinese Association of Bio-EM Science Annual Conference: April 22, 2014 Dr. Yei-Wei Magnus Lou The Shared Core Teachings from Management & History An important management book: “Built to Last” (1994), by James Collins and Jerry Porras, studies 18 (hundred-year old) “visionary” companies: like GE、HP、SONY、WAL-MART、WALT DISNEY、IBM、NORDSTROM ..and concluded two shared values: core competence and adaptation. Another history book: “Three Golden Ages”(1998 ), by Alf Mapp, Jr., analyzed three golden ages of the western history: Italian Renaissance, British Empire under Queen Elizabeth and American Revolution, then came up with basically the same values: tradition preservation and change with the environment. The same teachings should apply in the future: integrate Confucianism /Taoism/Buddhism with Democracy/Science/Spirituality. Got B.S./M.S. in Physics from Taiwanese schools with Ph.D.in Physiology from Johns Hopkins U (1973). Envisioned the insight on resonance in 1982 and verified with follow-on animal experiments. Numerous articles published since 1984. Developed the pieso-electro meridian measurement machine in 1988. Published a best-selling (Chinese) book titled:“The music of Qi” in 2002. Then 3 more books to explain the link btw TCM and modern science. Working on non-invasive glucose measuring device and cloud-based remote pulse signal processing for health data. National Taiwan U Hospital has verified the preliminary correlation of TCM and modern disease data since 2012. Further study needed. Wang, Wei-Kung and other scientists 1945- Meridian system: long misunderstood world treasure? Dr. Y.C. Fung, “the father of biodynamics” with Dr. Wang in 2002 The resonance concept is accepted or supported by famous TCM doctors, academia and even one famous orthodox bio- dynamist. A 2014-02 review article was accepted/published by “Journal of Physiology” after the counterpart orthodox hemodynamic arguments were solicited but not forthcoming. Many scientists appreciated Dr. Wang’s research but do not know how to participate or join in the paradigm shift. This is where inertia needs removal. Working on the origins of I-Ching. Recently published “New Interpretation of Ho-Tu and Luo-Shu(河圖洛書新解)”, a book linking resonance/harmonics/time-wave function origin with some legacy (incl. misguided) Taoism culture. Working on another book(河圖洛書前傳)about the pre-history of China. Dr. Y.C. Fung, 2009 Hans Jenny and his Cymatics: photos of dusted water droplets under resonance 1904-1972 A pioneering Swiss scientist interested in vibration/resonance J Nassim Haramein and his Holo-fracto-graphy 1962- Web site named: “Resonance Project” Born in Switzerland to Iranian/Italian parents. Interested in geometry and meditation before 11(1973). Took an alternative path (via pyramid, crop circle...) to study the relationship btw geometry and physics. Convinced Elizabeth A.Rauscher, an academic physicist, to join him in the writing of an article called: “The Origin of Spin”(2004), incorporating rotational (torque and Coriolis) effect into solving the Einstein’s field equations(/GUT). The black-hole solution is thus called Haramein-Rauscher metric giving some insights against the prior Scharwzchild and/or Kerr-Newman…metric. Geometry with fractal is the unique feature, e.g. black holes are everywhere, including each particles. There are still a lot of work to be developed. He recently published: “Quantum Gravity and Holographic Mass” on Phys. Review and Res. Int’l (Apr., ’13). The orthodox physics community is not comfortable with such maverick efforts by an “outsider”. But there are merits in his/their effort that worth our close monitoring. Nassim Haramein’s partner: Elizabeth Rauscher, a respected UC-B physicist 40+ years of working on the theoretical physics M.S.(1965) and Ph.D. (1978) from Physics Dept , US-B. Worked at LawrenceBerkley Lab (1962-1979) and specialized in many theoretical fields, including nuclear/atomic/cosmology/plasma/earth,….physics. 4 years (1975-1979) of hosting the famous “Fundamental Fysics Group” in the SFO Bay area, which solidified the role of Quantum Mechanism, its concept proliferation and applications in modern time. Popular books like Tao of Physics (1975) by Fritjof Capra and The Dancing Wu-Li Masters (1979) by Gary Zukav came from this group. One of the main characters in “How the Hippies Saved Physics” (2012) by MIT Professor, David Kaiser. Still working on cosmology models, e.g. The Holographic Anthropic Multiverse: Formalizing the Complex Geometry of Reality. (2009 ) with R. Amoroso。 Wu,J.H.Proty’s comments on Haramein’s theory and others 1970- Interesting interactions btw East (I-Ching) and West A physicist with open mind and good communicative skills Learnt I-Ching and its predictive power during B.S. study at NTU. Got Ph.D. (1999) from Cambridge U under Stephen Hawking. Shared the I-Ching knowledge , including palm and face readings with his supervisor and staff. Presented three lectures with our BioEM group: 1) Science and I-Ching, 2) On Haramein’s theory and 3) Five I-Ching elements and disease. Also a TED speaker. Haramein’s theory is not a good ( may still be right or wrong) one because it cannot explain better than current models and failed to predict new things. Weaknesses include: a) too high a renormalized vacuum density , b) exaggeration on symmetry uniqueness for vector equilibrium (fractal star-tetrahedron ) and c) linking field equations with dark energy and dark material, but does not show derivations. But do not object to his d) linking geometry with physics and e)emphasis on the importance of spin/vortex/rotation. Working on his own cosmology model….. Lee, Si-Chen: An unique academic leader from Taiwan 1952- A Chinese book titled: “Searching for the Websites of Gods” Former President (2005 to 2013) of National Taiwan University MS(1977) &Ph.D. (1980) from EE Dept., Stanford U.. Specialized in semiconductor and opto-electric devices. Well respected scientist, educator and school administrator. Got interested in Qi-Kung by the invitation of Nat Sci. Council Chairman, Chen, Lu-An, in 1987 when China was in its “Qi-Kung fever”. Worked with gifted children on ESP research since 1992. Wrote two popular books on ESP and QiKung, in 2000 and 2004, before being selected to be the President of NTU in 2005. Had to stop such ESP and alternative research work for 8 years(20052014). Now is happy to “be back to academic freedom”. Organized this Bio-EM group with other scientists in 1995. Currently working on torsion field and complex dimensional theory. I-Ching and Sacred Geometry I-Ching Dimensional Evolution Ho, Chien-Tung: A free-thinking IChing innovator Correlation btw the evolution of three Chinese “yao” bars and the three Indian subtle basic components: Pure/Sattva-guna/white Action/Raja-guna/red Inert/Tama-guna /black 11 3.2 12 Chien, Xue-shen and his controversial life 1911-2009 A Chinese intellect caught by politics A victim of US McCarthyism/Anti-left hysteria in 1950’s Instrumental in setting up the PRC rocket and missile industries Stepped into political unknown and indirectly caused 1959-1961 famine Set aside by rivals after 1978, thus having time to study E.S.P.. This turns into “Qi-Kung fever” in the ’80 and ‘90’s. Protected Qi-masters and generated big debates in mainland China. Fa-Lun-Kung is one result. Wrote the ideological book《关于思维科学》 “About the Science of Mind” in 1983 Gao, Ge and his innovative ideas 1945An aerospace researcher who ventured into ESP, cosmology and earth quake science A professor in BAAU (Beijing Aeronautics and Astronautics University). Specialized in fluid dynamics and its applications. Won awards for fighter engine afterburner igniter redesign in the ’84 and submarine noise reduction in ‘92. Developed non-Reynold number turbulence equation at BAAU and published it with Yan Yong in ’93. Specialized in vortex boundary layer. Wrote a (so called) Sci-Fi book “Fantasy Planet” (2008) incorporating many new insights on earth quake prediction, weather pattern, galactic cycles, cosmology and E.S.P. Certainly a lot of “out-of-box” thinking for a Mainland Chinese… Another book “Cosmo Evolution” (2010) was a sequel and also published by Aviation Press (and prefaced by the same Minister of Aeronautics). Born in Wen-Zhou, China. Studied Chinese Classics and practiced basic kungfu, calligraphy and swordsmanship as youth before joining the military and teaching at military schools. Went to various temples to learn Buddhism and practice meditation. . Known for writing:“Measuring the Zen Ocean”(1960) and “The Alternative interpretation of Lun-Yu(Words of Confucius)”(1976) in Taiwan. Spread to Mainland China after mid-’80. His collected works is selling well in China. Private fund raised and built a railway (1998) for his home town Wen-Zhou. Set-up “Big Study” school near TaiHu and Shanghai, stayed until passed-away. Introduced Chinese culture to many beginners and taught many advance students. Wu, Ren-Jian: Combining the best of Chinese (TienTai) and Tibetan Buddhism 1906-1979 1865-1936 Two Masters (left: Wu and right: Nuora) linking Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist in the 20th century Was taught and initiated by Nuora Master (Ningma) in 1931 after a brief career in KMT and publication. Marked as a Ningma Master as early as 1935(30 yr old), teaching the practices of Padmasambhava (Lotus borne Guru) and Green Tara . Stayed in HK after 1949. Students spread to Taiwan, Malaysia and US. Integrated the core of Tien-Tai ( the most integrated Chinese ) Buddhism teachings: Samapatti(Provisional)/Shunyata(Void) /Madhyamika(Middle Path) with Tibetan meditative practices. Many members of the Bio-EM science association are related to this lineage due to its logics and practices. Tao Master Bai-Yung: Natural and No Action” 1916- Almost 100 years old, but still actively involved in the spreading of the non-religious Tao Wu, Chung-Shin graduated from Tsin-Hwa U (1938) in Beijing. Had influenced the outcome of a critical battle during the civil war(1948). Worked as Tai-power engineer in Taiwan, with Sun, Yun-Shuen(the former Premier) for a period in ‘50/’60. Dedicated to the teaching of the original meaning of Tao since ‘80. Tao of Nature: Not religious, no duality, no individuality, looking for the true self. Tao of Heaven: No action, No self, No non-action Top Virtue is like Water: No dispute, No mind, Miraculous application of no action Master Hsu Yun and his contemperary legacy 1840-1959 (119 yrs) One of the most influential Buddhist monk of the 20th century China Shaved the head at 19(1858) as monk and learnt from Zen/Chan and TienTai teachers. Walked extensively around China, Tibet, India and Sri Lanka to learn. Enlightened at 56(1895). Started teaching at 64(1903). Travelled extensively, even during WW2. Rejuvenated many old Chinese monasteries, but never stayed long at each one and went on to the next one. Ten of thousands of monks were ordained under him. Stayed in China rather than went to HK or Taiwan after 1949. Suffered during anti-rightist political movement at Mt. Yun-Men at 112(1951). But it also established him as the non-yielding and compassionate Buddhist icon. Well remembered and exemplified by many Buddhists in various sects (Pure Land, Zen, Tien-Tai,…) and lineages up to today. Sayings by Master Hsu Yun and Master Wu Shan H.Y.: Cleanse out personality traits/habits continuously is the only way to escape cyclic life-and-deaths. H.Y.: True self will reveal itself once the personality traits were cleansed. Buddhahood follows. H.Y.(last words): Earnestly and vigorously apply oneself to the cultivation of precepts, samadhi, and wisdom, in order to counteract greed, anger, and stupidity. Forget oneself for the sake of the Dharma and to mutually cherish and respect one another. MD (1972) from Nat Defense Medical Center. Worked in pathology dept at the Veteran’s Hospital (1972-1986). Developed interests in TCM after working on Diabetics and Hepatitis. Tasked by Li-Fu Chen( C.C. clique, KMT) to focus on integrated causality for breast cancer (the chosen disease) since 1992. Combined the latest modern medical research (longevity gene, cancer stem cell, EM…) with TCM(Shang Han Lung, Yun-Qi, meridian,…) and homeopathy(O-ring test,..). Tested and applied clinically to hundred of patients in Lao and other places. Core treatment concepts: “Eliminate environmental contaminations”, i.e. Mercury(herbal wash), EM pollution/signals (Fe-Nb magnets) and cleansing by watching sun-rise/-set(grounded). Integrated medicine system diagram for Breast Cancer by Dr. Pan, Nien-Chung The plaque hung at the main hall of Forbidden City in Beijing. It means “Follow the heavenly mandate and adapt to the people’s wishes to rule the country with the Tao, i.e. optimum way”. The meaning of this plaque resonates with what we learn from page one (from the two famous and insightful management and history scholars) as well as the whole presentation. THANKS www.bioem.org.tw E.O. Wilson and his failed attempt to integrate science & other fields 1929 Famous ant and “biodiversity” researcher from Harvard U. Typical materialistic scientist with iconoclastic ideology? Don’t be scared by one’s titles, look at the facts & logic. Why is “Environ Policy” Similar 4-quadrant map , but so different: here? ( Is it a joke?) Ken Wilber(w/o any academic titles) has a much better integrative map and systems Wu, Chin-Chung and his “Human Body Operator’s Manual, Rev. 3.0” A mechanical engineer by training. Factory automation was his discipline. Accidently ventured into TCM arena after exhaustive career in management consulting in HK resulted in deteriorating health . Published three books, all titled “Human Body Operator’s Manual” Rev.1/2/3, and sold millions of copies in China. Proposed “Low-cost healthcare system” integrating East and West medicine. Working on health maintenance device which combines instant meridian monitoring with artificial Qi generation.
