Weekly Lesson Plans
Daily Plans and Activities for Monday
Objective:
-Increase vocabulary.
-Understand conflict and the different types.
-Understand the stages of the plot.
Procedure: Warm-up- Vote on a mission statement. Students
will copy down word stems in the notes section of their
Interactive Notebook: ab, err, ign, soph. Then, students will
complete pp. 7-8 Note-taking handout for Conflict and Plot
during reading. (conflict, external conflict, internal conflict, plot,
exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. We
will read the Reader’s Workshop for Plot and Conflict. (pp. 2835) We will discuss the vocabulary terms throughout the close
reading of this section.

Objective:
-Increase understanding of academic vocabulary.
-Understand conflict and the different types.
-Make predictions during reading.
Procedure: Warm-up-Copy academic vocabulary from p. 3 in
your Interactive Reader. Big Question: Is any plan foolproof? (p.
20) I.R. We will review conflict, resolution, and the vocabulary
for “The Ransom of Red Chief”. Then, students will listen to the
story. Students will pause and fill out the Interactive Reader
during reading to make predictions and recognize conflict.
Students will complete pp. 35-37 in the Interactive Reader. P. 37
will be assigned for homework if there isn’t enough time during
class.

Daily Plans and Activities for Wednesday
Objective:
-Understand conflict and the different types.
-Make predictions during reading.
Procedure: Warm-up-Writing prompt: List at least one example
of conflict in “Ransom of Red Chief”. Finish yesterday’s
activities.
Evaluation: pp. 35-37 in Interactive Reader

Objective:
-Understand the 2 types of conflict.

-Recognize the subplot in a story.
-Recognize the sequence of events in a story.
Procedure: Warm-up- Finish p. 37 (homework). (p. 40) Big
Question: When does trash become treasure? We will review the
2 types of conflict and subplots. We will also review the reading
skill sequencing and the term flashback. Finally, we will review
the Vocabulary in Context before reading the short story “Clean
Sweep”. Students will record thoughts about the story about
conflicts and subplots during reading. I will give students a list of
important events from the story in a bag. Students will work
together in their group to unscramble the events and put them in
order. They will also complete the Academic Vocabulary in
Writing and the Texas Assessment Practice on p. 55.

Daily Plans and Activities for Friday
Objective:
-Understand the 2 types of conflict.
-Recognize the subplot in a story.
-Recognize the sequence of events in a story
-Recognize the parts of speech.
Procedure: Warm-up- Study word stems. Students will take an
oral quiz over the word stems. Parts of Speech review. Students
will take notes from a PowerPoint and write down examples of
each part of speech. We will play a Parts of Speech game. If
there is time, students will finish yesterday’s activities.
