7TH Union County Middle School GRADE Morganfield, KY 10-1-2014 7th Grade Classroom Newsletter Language Arts In language arts, we are currently in the middle of our “Perseverance Unit”. The students are reading articles and other pieces in order to gain a sense of understanding of what perseverance is. We have an upcoming assessment on Thursday, Oct. 2nd. Our grading period ends soon, please encourage your child to get their 10 AR points. Also, a Remind Sheet will be sent home this week as well. Be sure to sign up! Science In Science we are learning about Motion and Forces, Gravity, and Magnetism. We will be doing several labs during this unit. This is a content filled unit with several new concepts. It is very important that you and your child study their notes on a regular basis. 15 minutes a day can make all the difference on a test grade. Students need to keep all of their notes in their composition books. We will be taking a quiz this Friday and the Unit test will be after fall break. Enjoy your week off! Upcoming Events Fall Break Oct.6th-10th Boys/Girls Basketball Tryouts Oct 1315. 1st 9Weeks D-Free- Oct 16th Social Studies Students are currently studying Ancient Egypt. We are learning about the Nile rivers impact on the Egyptian people. We are learning about the Pyramids and what they were used for. We are examining the major Pharaohs of Egypt from the young King Tut to the peaceful queen Hatsheput. After fall break, the students will review the previous units of Geography, Ancient Man, and the now unit of Egypt. Math In math we have just finished Integers and Rational Numbers and will be working with Proportions next. Students will be working to find unit rates and finding equivalent rates. We will be posting the dates of our next assessment on our website calendar in the near future. Every student has been issued a text book and we encourage parents to take a look at them because there is an online helper and several resources helpful to completing homework and learning the material in the book and on the website. Please check out our Remind 101. We will be sending home several videos so please work with us to get all students watching them. Students can access the videos via school webpage on their phones or computers, through a flash drive, CD or DVD. Students can also watch videos first thing in the morning in the Library before the start of the day. We ask that if a student has any trouble with this that a note would be sent to school.
