Communication skills will include writing, reading/listening, and speaking. Critical thinking will be developed by exposing students to ideas through literature and various multimedia. Homework could include grammar practice, essay writing, reading, research, projects, and presentation preparations. Students are encouraged to check Engrade in order to review dates of assignments, although reminders and thorough instructions will be given during class. Homework should be written in the students’ agendas on a daily basis. Students are expected to read from a novel of their choice AT HOME for a minimum of 10 minutes per day. Evaluation Students will be evaluated via Learning and Evaluation Situations; this will allow students to be assessed based on written assignments/tests, essays (that inform, advise, persuade, and/or analyze), projects, reading comprehension assignments/tests, in-class activities/participation, oral reports, group work and formal tests/exams (in accordance with the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport). All assignments will be given in advance with ample time for completion. Assignments must be submitted according to the guidelines imposed by North Star Academy Laval. Please note that a late penalty (-20%/day) will be applied for a maximum of 3 days, after which the student will automatically receive a grade of zero. Plagiarism Please note that any form of plagiarism or cheating will result in a grade of zero on the test or assignment, and a letter from the teacher will be placed in your file.
