G.T. English, Language Arts, and Reading Mrs. Lubojacky As a gifted and talented teacher, I believe this is especially true for my students, and my goal is to expose students to higher level thinking. I am dedicated to teaching good knowledge. I do make the assumption that your child is academically motivated, and it is my goal to teach them to be independent and creative thinkers, with the ability to apply knowledge and skills to all aspects of life. The Wylie W.I.N.G.S. program is designed to be built upon, with each grade a preparation for the next. I am creating LIFE LONG LEARNERS! Out of my Mind – Sharon Draper Knots in my Yo-Yo String – Jerry Spinelli Maniac Magee – Jerry Spinelli A Wrinkle in Time – Madeleine L’Engle Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry – Mildred Taylor We will also do literature circles (Student choice of novel from provided list) The goal is to obtain a mastery of words. The method used in The Word Within the Word is more than merely memorizing words, rather it is making logical sense of the root of words. Also known as STEMS A new list will be given each week. Each list has 15 words Tests are weekly with review tests after 5 lists STEM homework and tests will be averaged and one grade for each will be placed into the gradebook at end of nine weeks. Each of my students has a file with their name on it; graded papers are placed in their file, and it is the student’s responsibility to check their file at least once a week. What if my student gets a grade below a 70? All assignments below a 70 can be corrected. Original and new grade will be averaged together or placed into the grade book. What if my child is absent? Work is collected for your child the day(s) that they are absent by the class attendance clerk and placed in the Absent Work Folder. It is your child’s responsibility to pick up their absent work from the folder when they return to school. They have the number of days that they were absent to make up the missed assignments. What if I leave a textbook or something else I need for class in my locker? We have designated locker times and are not allowed to send anyone to their lockers during any NON locker times. Not having what you need may result in having to attend tutorials to complete the class assignment missed. Locker Times are Before 1st period, Before 3rd period, and After 5th period. Where do papers get turned in? Each period has a basket, and it is your child’s responsibility to turn in their papers when they are due and complete. What if there is no name on my paper? Papers with no name are placed into the NO NAME folder. A “B” is not the end of the world: This is designed to be a demanding, challenging, and rigorous language arts curriculum. Therefore, your child will be challenged more than they would in a regular language arts class. Your child may have to study and practice more than they have in the past. If your child does not achieve as well as they have in the past, DO NOT PANIC! Keep calm and work with the teacher on a plan of action. My goal is for your child to be as successful as possible. I want them to succeed!!!
