from 1988 to 1990 Mandela organized secret communications with former law
partner and leader of the African National Congress, Oliver Tambo
 became involved in anti-apartheid movement while in his 20s
 Mandela quote: "We stand here today as nothing more than a representative of
the millions of our people who dared to rise up against a social operation whose
very essence is war, violence, racism, oppression, repression and the
impoverishment of an entire people."

 In July 1989, Mandela was released from prison.
 de Klerk became Mandela’s first Deputy President and Thabo Mbeki was chosen as
second Deputy President
 Mandela served over 27 years in prison, initially on Robben Island, and later in

 Mandela died on 5 December 2013 at his home at Houghton Estate, Johannesburg
from complications of a lung infection, aged 95.[
