Cell Theory • Theory: An explanation that has been supported by many observations. • The cell theory has three parts: • All living things are composed of one or more cells. • Cells are the basic unit of structure and function. • Cells only come from the reproduction of existing cells. Cells only come from the reproduction of other cells. • Two basic types of cell reproduction: • Sexual • Conjugation - by unicellular organisms • Meiosis - creation of sex cells (sperm & eggs) • Asexual • Binary Fission - by unicellular organisms • Mitosis - by multicellular organisms
