develop a love for reading. For all classes to feel
comfortable and able to discuss openly in class. 3 groups
of different reading levels per class. I want my
students to improve on their reading and
understanding.Each group has a different leveled
book,based on DRA scores and growth factors.

mammals and classifying animals.

Guided Reading Begins
I will introduce new vocabulary to each group,9 groups
total, and pass out sticky notes to use for homework to
write down any unknown words during their reading.
Before reading I will tell them what we will be doing. That
we will be predicting and giving a summary of the story
and be able to used learned vocabulary of the week while
doing so. We will discuss vocabulary and how it is used in
the text. We will discuss what a summary is.
Discussion of the literature read and studied this week.
Students will explain WHY they liked one better than the
other. Which did they like the least? Why? What would
they change about particular story? Why would they
change it? Which book did they enjoy reading this week
and why. Discuss
The students will learn to read with expression. Using
punctuation while they are reading to better understand
what they are reading. For example” Read the sentence
as a question.” Pausing for commas and stopping for
periods.
Work on/Review Long vowel sounds.Review and the rule
that goes with them.
Continued work/review on advanced vocabulary.
Introduce literature on animals Show visual aids, and
identify them.
Journal about it and draw pictures.
Can students create a new animal and classify it?
What characteristics does it have?
