Obesity in America
– United States Obesity rates rank among
the highest in the world. More than onethird of U.S. adults (35.7%) and
approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of
children and adolescents aged 2—19
years are obese.
– The South had the highest prevalence of
obesity (29.5%), followed by the Midwest
(29.0%), the Northeast (25.3%) and the
West (24.3%).
– Non-Hispanic blacks have the highest

age-adjusted rates of obesity (49.5%)

Canola Facts
•
Because it contains one of the highest ratios of unsaturated to saturated fats,
it is one of the most heart-healthy oils, reported to reduce cholesterol levels,
lower serum tryglyceride levels, and keep platelets from sticking together.
•
Because of the high omega-3 content, heating canola oil above 120 may
change some of the fatty acids into trans fats, which raise total cholesterol
and lower the levels of good cholesterol
