Acid comes from the latin word acer,
which means sharp. Acids are sharp
tasting! (“Tangy”)
Litmus
We can test if a substance is an acid by
using a chemical called Litmus.
Litmus turns red in acid
Indicator
Because Litmus can help us find out if a
substance is an acid, it is called an
indicator.
Testing different substances
You are now going to test different
substances with Litmus to see if any of
them are acids.
