Registering for Classes
Pre-Advising Workshop
Before We Begin:
Meet with Your Advisor
• Your assigned advisor will be listed on the
school website. They will help you finalize
which classes you can or should take.
• This session is meant to help you be more self
sufficient as a student, but does not replace
advising with your assigned advisor.
What you need to know:
*Who is my advisor?
*When can I register?
*What tools can I use to help me figure
out what to take next quarter?
*How do I register for next quarter?
#1. Go to www.spscc.ctc.edu
#2. Go to “Current Students”
#3. Go to “When Can I register?”
Registration
Appointment
Time
This notice tells you that your
“appointment time” is NOT a
meeting time.
It is the earliest time you may
go online or to Building 25 to
register for your credit
classes.
You should meet and talk with
your Advisor BEFORE this
time so you know FOR SURE
what classes to sign up for.
Enter your Student ID number
875-XX-XXXX
(you don’t need the dashes)
Enter your birthday
MMDDYY
(if your month or day only has one
number, add a zero before it)
This is the earliest
DAY that you can

IT IS NOT AN

Now that I know when I
am allowed to register,
how do I decide what
courses I should take?
Picking Classes—Degree Audit
*Do you want a certificate or degree?
If you are attending to get a degree or
certificate (and if you are getting financial aid
for a specific purpose), there are lists of
classes you must take. Start with Degree Audit
and see which classes you need to take and
how long it might take you.
Degree Audit: an on-line tool
*You can look at all the degree and certificate
requirements in Degree Audit.
*If you know what certificate or degree you
want to work on, it helps you figure out what
classes you need to take.
(But, pre-100 level pre-requisite courses like Reading 91 are
not listed. Add these courses to the course lists for degrees
and certificates.)
Degree Audit—more functions!
*It keeps track of all the classes you’ve
taken at SPSCC
* It keeps CPT (College Placement Test)
test scores so you can tell what to take
next in English, Reading, and Math
Where do I find Degree Audit?
*It is on the college’s webpage
(www.spscc.ctc.edu)
*Use it between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. from
wherever you have internet access.
*You need to know:
 Your Student ID (875-XX-XXXX)
 Your Global PIN (your birth date - MMDDYY)
Go to
spscc.ctc.edu
Click on the
Current
Students
button
Click on the

and your

of the Certificate or
Degree you picked
and what it requires.
This describes how long it takes
to finish. It doesn’t include Basic
Skills or Pre-college level
courses, though.
Shows you all of the classes you
need to take. It checks them off
when you finish each one.
Also shows you all the other
classes you’ve taken that don’t
go directly toward this certificate
or degree.
Click on the Test
Scores tab.
This will show if
you have taken
the CPT, what
your scores were,
what level it
recommends you
take, or if you’ve
taken some
other test to let
you into the a
class.
Your Advisor can write
down which classes you
should take each quarter
and save them here.
Other advisors can look
at this and help keep
track of your goals.
It also reminds you about
which classes you need.
Some classes require
that you take other
classes first.
Now that I know what courses I
must take for a degree or certificate,
how do I find my classes
for next quarter?
First, determine which pre-college classes
you must complete. The CPT scores and
the classes you are currently taking this
quarter determine this for you.
Complete English and
Reading Pre-requisites
*Have appropriate scores on CPT
or pass Reading 92 and English 92
to move to Reading 96 and/or English 96
*Complete both Reading 97 and English 97 to
move to English 101.
Complete Math Pre-requisites
You need to look closely at the
program you want to determine
what math classes to take. Program
requirements vary!

How do I now register for classes
now that I know what I want?
After meeting with your assigned

drop out of that class, you will get in.

Wait List Strategy
What if a class was full and you put yourself on a
wait list? Check that list often to see if you have
been added to the class. Sometimes, when tuition
payments are due, about two weeks before a
quarter starts, there will be drops and your name
will be added to a class.
When you have registered, you have
to pay—but not until about two
weeks before the new quarter.
If you don’t pay your tuition, you will be
dropped from rosters and will no longer
be registered. Check each quarter for
specific payment due dates. Check with
Financial Aid, too, if you have been
awarded funds.
