Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme, Hellfire, Scout SV, Warrior Capability
Sustainment Programme, JAVELIN, C-130.
LMUK Ampthill
LMUK Ampthill traces its history back to Percival Aircraft, which became part of the
Hunting Group in 1944, changing its name to Hunting Percival Aircraft in 1954. Mergers
and consolidation led to the creation of Hunting Engineering, which moved to Ampthill in
1962. It was sold to its management in 2001 as INSYS, and Lockheed Martin acquired
INSYS in 2005. The site is now referred to as Lockheed Martin UK - Ampthill and is a
significant Business Area within Lockheed Martin’s Missiles & Fire Control business unit.
Lockheed Martin UK – Ampthill currently employs around 800 employees and is the
largest wholly owned Lockheed Martin site in the UK.
Programme Operations employ in the region of 90 personnel consisting of Programme
Managers, Control Account Managers, Master Planners, Risk Managers, Programme and
Administration Support personnel these personnel are deployed to various programmes
across the site. The Programmes at Ampthill can be split into three business areas:
Vehicle Systems, Protection Systems, and Special Projects. Key programmes at the site
include the Warrior Capability Sustainment Programme (WCSP), Scout Specialist Vehicle
(SV) turret integration, and LEAPP (Land Environment Air Picture Provision).
Specific Job Description:
 Partners with Program Management and directs all phases of program planning
from inception through completion. Architects, prepares and develops the
Integrated Master Plan and Integrated Master Schedule to meet all program
strategic objectives.
 Works with the technical community, operational community and program
management to translate authorised customer requirements into the performance
measurement baseline.
 Develops a compliant Integrated Master Schedule which accurately and
comprehensively validates the contractual scope, flow and resources required to
execute the program.
 Works under consultative direction toward long-range goals and objectives.
Assignments are often self-initiated. Virtually self-supervisory
 Decisions affect the financial, employee or public relations posture of the
organisation.
 Develops and applies advanced concepts, techniques, and standards. Develops
new applications based on professional principles and theories. Viewed as an
expert in field within the corporation.
 Develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree
of ingenuity, creativity, and innovativeness. Challenges are frequently unique and
solutions may serve as precedent for future decisions.
 Responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of planning and schedule management in
support of program capture and execution.
 Leads proposal preparation planning including development of planning artefacts
for solicitation response. Interfaces with program management, senior management
and the contractual customer as the programs planning integrator.
 Validates cost and schedule integration for effective program performance
management.
 Manages vertical and horisontal integration between all schedules and other
program artefacts compliant with LM's command media.
 May provide leadership, direction and day to day management of other program
planners if applicable.
 Devises modelling and measuring techniques to integrate risks and opportunities
with schedule and cost baseline. Performs time-phased predictive analyses, critical
path verification and schedule risk assessments to assure the capability of the
program to meet their commitments.
 Resolves schedule conflicts, develops and implements work-around strategies and
tactical alternatives.
 Utilises performance and health metrics analyses to drive actions resulting in
improved program performance.
 Maintenance and status updates of the IMS on a weekly & monthly basis
 Maintenance of the Performance Measurement Baseline
 Creation and Maintenance of the Project Business Rhythm
 Point of contact for both Suppliers and Clients
 Attendance and Presentation of Schedule Information for client and management
reviews
 Creation of project status reports and slide decks
Required Skills:
 Excellent working knowledge of and experience in MS Project 2007.
 A strong individual who will ensure that best planning practice is always adhered to,
even in occasional pressurised situations.
 Extensive experience in the development, maintenance and control of complex
event-driven Integrated Master Schedules (IMS).
 Proven understanding of all aspects of Earned Value Management (EVM) to include
the Work Breakdown Structure, Organisational Breakdown Structure (OBS),
Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RAM), work package structure, Performance
Measurement Baseline (PMB) and PMB Change Control
 The candidate must have experience planning and scheduling in complex design
and development programmes (preferably MoD or Defence related) and be able to
understand and work with a technical and skill-diverse team
 The ability to quickly pick up new tool sets and processes, with good analytical
skills.
 The ability and experience to lead and motivate a small team of planners in their
day to day work.
 Proven ability to analyse schedules for impending difficulties and clearly
communicate to programme manager and leads.
 Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Standard Job Description:
Prepares and coordinates the plans and schedules for new or existing programs.
Determines, monitors, and reviews costs, operational budgets and schedules, and
manpower requirements. Supports and participates in negotiations with customer.
Analyses effects of projects upon various areas such as Engineering, Facilities, and the
labor pool to determine the most practical and cost-efficient methods to obtain the required
resources. Resolves proposal preparation problems and assesses the progress against
established plans and parameters. Formulates and recommends corrective action
measures such as schedule revisions, manpower adjustments, fund allocations, and work
requirements.
Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
Ideally require a Bachelors degree from an accredited college and capability typically
achieved through proven professional experience. Will also consider individuals with
equivalent experience / combined education.
