Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme, Hellfire, Scout SV, Warrior Capability
Sustainment Programme,JAVELIN, C-130.
LMUK Ampthill LMUK Ampthill traces its history back to Percival Aircraft, which became
part of the Hunting Group in 1944, changing its name to Hunting Percival Aircraft in
1954. Mergers and consolidation led to the creation of Hunting Engineering, which
moved to Ampthill in 1962. It was sold to its management in 2001 as INSYS, and
Lockheed Martin acquired INSYS in 2005. The site is now referred to as Lockheed
Martin UK - Ampthill and is a significant Business Area within Lockheed Martin’s Missiles
& Fire Control business unit. Lockheed Martin UK – Ampthill currently employs around
800 employees and is the largest wholly owned Lockheed Martin site in the UK.
The Quality function employs in the region of 40 personnel consisting of Quality and
Supplier Quality Assurance Managers, Process and Compliance Quality staff, Indirect
and Direct Quality Engineers, Inspection specialists and Administration Support
personnel. As well as centrally providing assurance and governance, these personnel
are deployed to various programmes across the site.The Programmes at Ampthill can
be split into three business areas: Vehicle Systems, Mission Support, and Special
Projects. Key programmes at the site include the Warrior Capability Sustainment
Programme (WCSP), Scout Specialist Vehicle (SV) turret integration, and LEAPP (Land
Environment Air PictureProvision).
Specific Job Description:
 Plans, organizes, directs and reports on all supplier quality-related activities such as
raw materials, packaging materials, good manufacturing practices (GMP) service
providers, as well as contract manufacturers, and/or contract manufacturing and
laboratories to assure fulfilment of contract/purchase order requirements.
 Translates engineering, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
 Assures that customer quality-imposed technical requirements are adhered to by
supplier and that a quality system is maintained.
 Conducts programs designed to improve supplier performance, productivity, and
process validation.
 Prepares, maintains and reviews procurement quality assurance procedures to
assure compliance with customer and/or government requirements.
 Reviews and analyzes corrective action reports and purchase orders in an effort to
reduce and eliminate defects.
 Monitors quality control activities and systems at supplier and subcontractor facilities,
and maintains feedback loops.
 May administer a certified supplier program or related programs in receiving
inspection. May also audit third party manufacturers, due diligence and vendor
selection process. May perform deviation investigations into quality issues.
Required Skills:
 Be able to understand most aspects of quality assurance across a range Suppliers
and Sub Contractors.
 Developing Quality Engineer having some prior successes working with Systems
Suppliers, Build-to-Print Manufacturers and Internal Design Teams
 Ability to apply quality engineering principles with internal teams and suppliers.
Experience or knowledge of QA tools such as APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC, Control
Plans, FMEA, Poke Yoke and RCCA would be of benefit
 Experience of working within RCCA teams and Material Review Boards to drive
solutions to issues and develop robust preventative actions.
 Knowledge of AS9100 and AQAP-2110, and potential of auditing programmes to
these standards.
 Knowledge of Electrical / Electronic Manufacturing & integration, Welding and
Special Processes in the Automotive and / or Defence sectors would be desirable.
 Strong interpersonal skills: ability to initiate and maintain relationships with
challenging suppliers and manage frequent interactions with relevant LM
management and other internal and external customers.
 Ability to challenge individuals at all levels to ensure compliance to business
processes and standards

Standard Job Description:
 Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems
and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials
product. Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure
quality standards are in place.
 Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and
evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
 Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and
equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to
assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do
not meet required standards and specifications.
 Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
 Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that
documentation is compliant with requirements.
 May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product
evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they
apply to product or process quality.
 May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.
Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
Ideally require a Bachelors degree from an accredited college and capability typically
achieved through proven professional experience. Will also consider individuals with
equivalent experience / combined education.
