Plenary One: China's Position in the World: New Economic
Opportunities and Challenges
Seven Seas Ballroom B+C, 1F
China’s economic growth over the last several decades stands out as
one of the most remarkable economic transformations and most
exemplary models in the world. However, as the world economy slows
and China strives to adjust its economic structure, the “China Model” has
also encountered numerous significant challenges and obstacles on its
path to smooth economic reform. How do we interpret the economic
reform policies outlined in the 12th Five-Year Plan and proposed by the
18th National Party Congress? What are the new priorities, strategies
and opportunities in China’s economic model that China and the world
should be anticipating?

Plenary Two: China-US: The Critical Bilateral Relationship
Seven Seas Ballroom B+C, 1F
With the USA presidential election having just concluded and with a
smooth transition of leadership in China at the 18th National Congress of
the Communist Party of China, there exists a great opportunity to further
the critical bilateral relationship between China and the USA. Both
nations have and will continue to allocate enormous amounts of energy
and resources to building a more sustainable bilateral relationship.
However, given the significant differences in values, culture, ideology
and political systems, many people ask whether there are areas in which
the world’s two giants can collaborate more smoothly. What tasks must
be accomplished to accelerate the process of eliminating the barriers
and obstacles in bilateral trade and investment and establishing a more
sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship between China and the
USA?

1. New Energy Equation
Seven Seas Ballroom A, 1F
As China’s economy continues to grow, China is faced with the dual
challenge of looking for sufficient energy to sustain her rapidly growing
economy while shifting to a more environmentally sustainable energy
model. What’s the current status of clean-tech in China and what are
the key energy priorities?

2. Environment, City and Sustainable Development
Seven Seas Ballroom B, 1F
In the context of globalization, the issue of how to balance rapid
economic growth and sustainable social development has posed a
serious challenge to humanity. Long-term practices include promoting
low-carbon and efficient development, more proactive solutions to
climate change and more efficient consumption of energy - in the hope
of reaching equilibrium between public goods and sustainable soft
environmental resources. In the course of urbanization and city
planning, we’ve considered economic benefits, but we also must attach
importance to social and ecological benefits. This is the ultimate
harmony between man and nature. What are the current challenges
and obstacles for city planning in China? What solutions can we look for
to help overcome these difficulties? What best practices can China
seek from other countries in order to improve its city planning practices?

3. Financial Openness and Cooperation
Seven Seas Ballroom C, 1F
From the experience of economic transitioning of emerging markets,
policies and routes of financial openness and cooperation are extremely
complicated and unpredictable. How can we avoid the clashes of
international financial liquidity? How can Chinese financial enterprises
enter the global market? How can China's private financing sector
further liberalize? What is the driving force pushing reforms in the
financial system? Under the current circumstances of financial
openness, “financial security” is inevitably indispensable to the
long-term stability and development of the overall financial system.

4. Trans-border Investment and Merger & Acquisitions
Seven Seas Ballroom A, 1F
With the trend of Global economic integration, trans-border merger and
acquisitions have become one of the most crucial forms of international
investment. Trans-border investment and M&A are visible in global
finance and have been extended to other systems in order to more
effectively and efficiently utilize available resources. Trans-border
investment and M&A are important practices for corporations to enter
the global market. Moreover, trans-border investment and M&A are
an essential component of the healthy development of national
economies. Faced with various challenges such as clashes of
cultures, legal restrictions and barriers and trade protectionism, what
are the most appropriate and productive practices of trans-border
investment and M&A for Chinese enterprises to employ in the
post-financial crisis era?

5. Policy and Corporate Innovation
Seven Seas Ballroom B, 1F
Various factors, for example, low levels of efficiency, ineffective
allocation of resources, incomplete systems to create incentives and
lack of accommodating policies—have all together constrained
businesses from further improving innovation.
What role can
government play to nurture a social environment and implement
appropriate policies in which corporations can become more innovative
without destabilizing the social environment? An effective risk sharing
mechanism that matches the national profile is vital to stimulating
corporate innovation.

6. China and Foreign CEO Dialogue-Corporate Social
Responsibility
Seven Seas Ballroom C, 1F
With a rapidly developing economy and society, corporations should
look beyond profit generation as their sole business purpose. Rather,
corporations are expected to serve as examples of responsible players
– that act not only in the best interest of their shareholders but also in
the best interests of their consumers, employees, community,
environment and beyond. How can corporations balance their role
between profit and social responsibility? As they fulfill their social

Plenary 3: The Future of Europe and Cooperation between China
and Europe
Seven Seas Ballroom B+C, 1F
The future of Europe remains highly uncertain as its economy and
social development have been hit dramatically by economic imbalances,
high unemployment and slow growth. Nonetheless, given the vigorous
trade history between Europe and the rest of the world, many argue
there still exist various opportunities for Europe to return as a strong
economic region after it has complete its internal restructuring and
adjustment. Are there signs of an economic turn in Europe and how will
the Sino-Europe relationship be affected accordingly? How can China
and Europe deepen their cooperation during this period of difficulty to
shed light on the recovery of the world economy?

Women’s Roundtable Summit Discussion: Female Leadership in a
Changing Era

Leadership is one key element to the success of reform. With the era of
economic growth and social development, an increasing number of
women are entering politics, business, academia, philanthropy and
other sectors, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills and playing
an extremely critical role in society. The conventional norms toward
women are also facing numerous changes, as society has begun to
fully appreciate the significance of women in leadership and
management. Under such rapidly changing circumstances - where
diversity is essential to all organizations - does the “glass-ceiling”
phenomenon still exist when female leaders aspire to climb up the
career ladder? What is the current status and what are the potential
opportunities for female leaders?
