Classroom Procedures and Expectations Mrs. McCain 2014-15 Procedures are a part of life. We follow procedures when we go to the movies, eat at a restaurant or fly on an airplane. The reason we have procedures is so people can function in society knowing the proper and appropriate way to do things. Procedures can make things run more efficiently, help people to be more successful, to make things safer and even to make things more fun! Think of what would happen if people didn’t follow the procedure and stop at a red light. The classroom also has its own set of procedures. They help to establish our classroom culture. When everyone follows the procedures, our class becomes safer, calmer and a better environment in which to learn. Although you may not remember them at first, please do your best to follow the procedures below. Let’s all choose to have a great year! How to enter the classroom Enter the room quietly and take your assigned seat. Please place all belongings quietly in your space. Immediately get to work with your Spanish journal entries. Please do not enter the room if there is no teacher in the room. If you come late to class, please enter quietly and hand pass to teacher Follow all procedures for the classroom as directed by the teacher/Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the SLCS Code of Conduct Spanish Supplies Each day you will need to bring: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. This will make it easier to prepare information about the lesson you missed. There are times that I can email you the notes from the Smartboard or give you a brief overview of the classwork so that you are familiar with the topic covered. 2. When you arrive back at school, please ask the designated classmate for more information on work missed and arrange to get notes or handouts. 3. Check the absent bin for handouts 4. If you are in school and have an early dismissal or you come late to school, it is your responsibility to get the work for the day. When the teacher wants your attention There are a variety of ways I may signal to get your attention. Please respond right away 1. 2. 3. Stand in front of the class and raise my hand Use a call and response signal. Example: Teacher says ¿Listos? Class responds: Listos Use a bell Classroom Discussions If is important that you involve yourself in class discussions. We are practicing a new language and verbal participation in pairs, with a group and with the teacher is very important. Moving around the room You need to ask permission for all movement except tissues. *You may get up to get a tissue without disturbing/ talking to other classmates. If “tissue use” becomes excessive or a means to avoid tasks or converse with classmates, students will need to ask permission in the future. End of Class The teacher dismisses the class, not the clock. Please do not pack up your items to leave unless the teacher has made a clear announcement that class has ended. Special Procedures These will be introduces on an “as needed” basis Progress Reports Substitute Teacher Special Guests Fire Drills Working Cooperatively Intercom Announcements Bathroom If students need to use the bathroom during the class period, I ask that they do not ask to go during “direct instruction”. Also, if they miss any information during a trip to the restroom, it is a student’s responsibility to get what was missed. Grooming Due to student and teacher allergies and sensitivities, please refrain from applying perfumes, sprays, scented lotions and personal scented sanitizers while at school. When you do apply at home, please be mindful of the amount. We would like to create a healthy learning environment. Remember, a little goes a long way. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Student Name____________________________________________ Date___________ I have read, discussed and asked questions about the Procedures for this class.
