The Dymock Cricket Club development plan has been created to provide it members with an understanding about the future development of their club. The support and participation in this plan of members and other stakeholders from the community are important, and therefore the Committee is keen to receive comments and views about this plan. Nothing in this world is certain, but we can have commitment to move forward. The Committee of the club meets regularly and discusses progress and achievements/failings of the activities.
Dymock is a medium sized village in north-west Gloucestershire, just two miles from the county border with Herefordshire. The cricket club , which is strictly amateur , was formed in the 1860’s and for over 100 years played friendly matches against other hamlets , villages and small town clubs in the area . Matches were played at this same ground, The Pound, which was eventually donated to the club by long time patrons, the
Chew family .
The club continued playing friendly matches on a strictly Saturday basis until the late
1970’s when the decision to enter league cricket was made. The club continued with friendly matches however, these being played on Sundays. The club was one of the founder members of the Gloucestershire Country League and subsequently the
Gloucestershire County Cricket League (GCCL). The club now operates two senior
Saturday sides, the first XI in the GCCL and the second XI in a feeder league, West
Gloucestershire League . The club has a flourishing junior section with teams at U9,
U11,U13 & U15 levels .
The Dymock KO Trophy is recognised as the most prestigious 20/20 tournament in North
Gloucestershire and is organized and hosted by the club on an annual basis.
Dymock Cricket Club exists to provide all members of the parish and the surrounding area with the opportunity to enjoy and thrive within the sport of cricket. In accordance with its constitution, club membership is open to all, and membership of Dymock Cricket
Club is welcomed to anyone without discrimination of gender, ethnicity, creed, or disability. The club will provide this opportunity in an environment that is safe for its young players, and provides a sporting challenge for all its members. The club will invest in its facilities and its resources in order to continually improve these opportunities.
The policies of the club are available on the notice boards in the clubhouse.
Our mission is to provide a cricket facility available to the whole community. This facility will be continually improved to meet the expectations of all its members within the aspiration of attaining ECB Clubmark status.
The development plan is a summary of all Dymock Cricket Club aspects, whether playing or otherwise & a reflection of the ideals we wish to develop over the next five (5) years.

The club is affiliated to the England & Wales Cricket Board via the Gloucestershire
Cricket Board and incorporates both senior and junior sections.
Dymock Cricket runs a First XI, a Second XI and a Sunday Cricket Team. The members that sustain the Club are those who play and contribute to the senior teams and their interests and contribution are the most important stakeholder of the success of the club.
First XI
The First XI is currently playing competitive cricket in Div 3 of the GCL and in order to continue to create challenge for new players, it will be setting the objective to gain promotion to the second division in 2015 and further promotion in later years.
Second XI
The Second XI plays competitive cricket in the newly formed Forest of Dean Division 1.
In order to ensure long-term challenge for its players coming through the junior section, and for players “retiring” from the First XI, the Second XI will set its sights on achieving promotion to the higher divisions of the Gloucestershire County League.
Third XI – The Sunday Team
The Sunday Team plays friendly cricket with sides in the local area – it provides an additional opportunity to enjoy cricket outside the competitive leagues and to provide additional experience of adult cricket for some of the better and senior juniors at the club.
Ladies Cricket
Whilst the club supports and promotes ladies cricket it is not currently (but has previously been) able to field a senior ladies’ team. Girls compete in mixed junior teams, as well as fielding their own teams in local fixtures. It is a key objective of the five year plan to re-establish a vibrant women’s section of the club.
Tournaments
Dymock Cricket Club organise and host the annual Dymock ‘Knock-out’ Trophy, a 20/20 competition open to all clubs in the area, the finals being held at the ground on the last
Sunday in July .
The club also organises and hosts local charity matches and organizes matches for the disabled.

Dymock Cricket Club has spent the last few years concentrating on improving the opportunities it provides to children and emphasises the importance of enjoying cricket whatever level of ability. In 2012 we had over 75 children registered and over 60 regularly turning out for coaching each week.
The club is active in the Leadon Vale Youth Leagues for Under 11, Under 13, and Under
15 age group will enter the Gloucestershire County Youth League in 2014. In the Leadon
Vale area a new Under 9 league is being developed. The club supports the District’s objective to increase the amount of cricket being played at junior levels and to increase the standard of cricket in the District, whilst remaining true to the spirit of ensuring children can enjoy and participate in cricket without any form of discrimination.
We meet every Thursday evening for Under 7s, Under 9s and Under 15s, at Dymock
Cricket Club and coaching sessions run from 6.00pm to 7.30 pm. Dates are usually from the middle of May until end of August when holidays start to dwindle the numbers.
Coaching is organised in the following age groups:
Under 7s for Kwik Cricket and fun
Under 9s using an increda-ball (looks like a cricket ball but no need for protective wear)
Under 11s, using a cricket ball
Under 13s
Under 15s
Under 17s
The Club has undertaken a commitment to follow the ECB Safe Hands Guidelines for
Child Welfare. All qualified coaches are CRB checked and the club has appointed a Child
Welfare Officer. For more information go to www.dymockcc.com The club is committed to achieve ClubMark accreditation and has been registered with the ECB to this effect.
The club hosts several fixtures for District and County Youth players.
Dymock Cricket Club is also registered to UK Athletics & Gloucestershire F.A., organizing and hosting several other sporting activities notably: The Dymock Half Marathon;
Kempley Biathlon and The Poets Path Marathon. The committee is currently planning a 6
A’Side soccer for juniors.
The club is an unincorporated membership club, governed by a constitution. The club is represented by four (4) Trustees in accordance with the 1925 Trustees Act, and is run by a democratically elected committee.
The officers comprising the committee are elected annually at the A.G.M.. The committee deals with all aspects of running the club, from financial to upkeep of the ground and pavilion. The team captains and vice captains are responsible for team selection and management. The current trustees and committee are set out in Appendix
A of this plan.
As stated in the Club Constitution, membership is open to all irrespective of ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or beliefs, sex, age and ability.

In accordance with ECB rules, the club has a qualified Child Welfare Officer and has also adopted the Safe Hands – Welfare of Young People in Cricket policies.
The club has one qualified umpire and six coaches (two at Level 2 and four at Level 1).
It is a key objective of the 5 year plan to establish a sustainable coaching framework, with a qualified coach and two assistants at each age group (U7,9,11,13,15 and 17) under the ‘Club’ coach.
Our cricket facilities, especially the condition of the grounds and wicket are the most important resource at the club – without them the club would be unable to provide cricket! The club, like many others in the district, have had to rely on the volunteer support of a small number of its members to dedicate time to the preparation of the grounds and wicket. The club will need to start investing in supporting these volunteers and this will be done by paying for training courses, ensuring access to resources and tools, and by providing a commitment from all members to help with the preparation of wickets.
The clubhouse of wooden construction with a flat roof was designed and built by members in 1976. This was at a time when grants were unavailable to small rural clubs, the necessary material costs being met by frantic fundraising and several donations. At that time the club ran just one Saturday side and the clubhouse met their requirements adequately. However with increased membership (the population of the village has more than doubled), heavy maintenance costs and a fixture increase of some tenfold, it is no longer fit for purpose. It is fair to say that it is too small and congested on match days, expensive to maintain (as the original softwood timbers deteriorate), and do not offer adequate facilities (notably changing rooms, showers and toilets) for both male and female players as well as disabled players and spectators.
Much of the ground preparation equipment is old, often breaking down and inefficient.
The tractor, gang mowers and roller are of 1950’s manufacture and square and wicket mowers of 1980’s vintage.
Relationships and partnerships with the community are crucial to the success of the
Dymock Cricket Club. These partnerships will be developed further with the availability of the new clubhouse. Our partnerships include:

The vision outlined above will only be achieved with considerable and co-ordinated efforts by the committee, club members and partners. Specific and detailed objectives to deliver the vision, with indicative year of delivery, are set out in Appendix B.
The objectives may be summarized as follows:
to increase the playing and non-playing membership, senior and junior
to establish and develop fund-raising activities and infrastructures to increase funds available to the club
to increase the number of qualified coaches within the club
to increase the number of qualified umpires within the club
to replace and improve essential grounds equipment (mowers, tractor, roller) to acquire desirable cricket equipment (nets, sightscreens, pitch covers)
to develop a new clubhouse that will exhibit a size reflecting today’s requirements: lower maintenance costs, bigger changing rooms , increased storage areas , a large modern kitchen and a bigger lounge area , the whole meeting the Government Health and Safety Regulations .
Progression during the five years from January 2013 will be coordinated by The Club
Development Manager.
The monetary requirements to meet these objectives can only be met with substantial fundraising, coupled with extensive grant research and the securement thereof.
Dymock Cricket relies heavily on volunteer support for its day to day running. On-going costs relate to ensuring sufficient funds are raised to keep an adequate stock of kit for junior teams and practices; and to pay fees and bills for the maintenance of the club – our subscriptions reflect these on-going running costs.
The main cost effort of the club will be to raise funds to construct a new pavilion, and these funds will need to be raised with support from a number of grant holding sources.
The total costs for a new pavilion are estimated to be in the region of £250,000; preliminary enquiries are on-going to establish the outline design, indicative planning and estimated costs of construction.

Other major cost items include;
Coaching courses leading to ECB qualifications – initially £1,000 per year, rising to an estimated £1,500 per year to ensure the continued development and progression of coaches
Establishing a new artificial pitch (to enable Junior, Sunday league and social matches to take place, preserving grass wickets, and enabling play in wet weather) - £7,600, due to be undertaken in 2013
Repairs of current antiquated grounds equipment - £2,000.
Replacement of obsolete grounds equipment - £26,000
Replacement of derelict cricket nets - £6,000
Restoration of current (single) sightscreen, and purchase of new sightscreen
Development of new clubhouse – estimate £250,000
Historically the turnover of the Club has varied between £7,000 and £10,000 per year, and is derived from a mix of membership subscription, fund raising activities and bar income. As of January 2013 the club has some £10K available for development, derived from operating surpluses in 2011 and 2012, combined with initial fundraising activities in
2012.
With the development of both coaching and facilities it is anticipated that the opportunities for fundraising within the club and the community will increase. In 2012 the Club established a ‘100’ club, as well as holding its first summer music festival (in conjunction with Dymock Parish Council), having secured a licence to hold 4 public events on its premises.
The club has started working with officers of the ECB to explore both commercial sponsorship and grant funding.
As the club moves toward ClubMark accreditation it will be in a better position to attract funding from ECB.
