Bboogle Adopters Community Meeting April 18th, 2011 (2 pm CDT) Attending: Ayhan Turgut (Florida Atlantic University), Kelt Dockins (U. of Arkansas, Little Rock), and the Northwestern crew (Brian Nielsen and Patricia Goldweic) Introductions NU Update Bboogle Latest Releases: Blackboard Certified Bboogle (2.0.8, 2.0.9) Blackboard contributed to Bboogle project by releasing certified Bboogle version 2.0.8 (10/17/11) based on the 2.0.0.0-alpha release/snapshot. By taking advantage of the features introduced in 2.0.0.0-alpha, this releases offers simplicity of installation by preconfiguring some options: o The Gint web service is pre-configured to be internal to the building block o The RBDMS chosen is Blackboard's own db Also includes optional Google SSO provider in block that delegates authentication to Bb Open Source Bboogle (1.5.0RC1,. 2.1.0Alpha): o NU released version 2.1.0Alpha in January , which is based on the current certified Bboogle version. It adds a simple import/export feature that should help with migration from Bboogle 1.5.0 onto the 2.0.0+ versions. o NU currently working on the integration of Bboogle with Bboogle Teams functionalities (version 3.0.0). (Bboogle Teams adds support for small group collaboration to Bboogle, and integrates this capability with Bb's own groups). We hope this work will be eventually certified by Blackboard. o The Bboogle demo instance is currently running version 3.0.0 o NU production Blackboard still running version 1.5.0 until early June (upgrade to 3.0.0 was rescheduled); may install certified Bboogle in June for the second Bboogle instance running at NU Usage issues/questions o o Which Bboogle version have you tested/installed/considered? At Florida Atlantic University, they are testing right now Bboogle 1.5.0 (due to some security concerns with versions 2.0.0+). They may install that version and wait for Blackboard to improve the certified offering to resolve the security concerns. Kelt suggested creating short videos describing in detail the Bboogle configuration , and also a short demo. These videos could be used to introduce other parts of an organization to the Bboogle software (e.g. when the units/departments that handle Blackboard administration and Google Apps administration are not the same, it may take some effort to convince the second unit to share GAE configuration information with the first, for example). The long-term success of the open source project will depend on availability of contributors (Bb and others) Open Source Issue tracker: Adopters should periodically check the open source issue tracker for Bboogle, at http://http://projects.oscelot.org/gf/project/bboogle/tracker. Issues that correspond to the Certified Bboogle block refer to version 2.0.8/2.0.9/2.0.10. Bb support will be posting known issues on this site, but others may post there too (if you do, you should reference your issue in your communications with Blackboard in order to obtain their support). Ideally, users would not only create tickets with Blackboard, but also post in the issue tracker and keep it updated with progress on the particular interaction with Blackboard.
