SECOND ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITY:
INITIAL INDUSTRY MEETINGS
April 13 TO 17, 2015
As part of the development of a new procurement tool for conference
interpretation services in official languages and parliamentary
interpretation services for the Translation Bureau
Introduction
The Acquisitions Branch (AB) of Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) and the
Translation Bureau (the Bureau) have begun engagement activities with a view to developing a new tool
for procuring conference interpretation services in the official languages and parliamentary interpretation
services for the Translation Bureau.
The first engagement activity, the information Webinar entitled “Doing Business with the Government of
Canada,” was held on Friday, November 14, 2014.
The AB and the Bureau are getting ready to begin the second engagement activity: initial industry
meetings.
Initial industry meetings
The AB and the Bureau are organizing a series of meetings for suppliers of conference interpretation
services in official languages and Parliamentary interpretation services, universities offering conference
interpretation programs and representatives of professional associations.
Those who would like to attend one of the meetings can do so in person or via videoconference from one
of the designated buildings across Canada.
Participation is voluntary. Canada will not cover any costs or expenses incurred by participants attending
the meetings.
1
Participants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis and in accordance with the principle of
representativeness. Only one representative per firm, university or association may participate. Those
selected may attend only one meeting. Canada reserves the right to determine the composition of the
groups and to cancel one or more meetings.
Meetings will be held in both official languages. All participants, including the moderator and Canada
representatives, are free to express themselves in the language of their choice. Therefore, proficiency in
both official languages is essential.
Discussions will focus on selected themes, including the tool’s potential structure (streams), assessment
criteria other than Bureau accreditation, quality control mechanisms as well as expanding the pool of
qualified interpreters and succession, etc.
The comments and suggestions received from the participants during the meetings will provide the
Bureau and the AB with factors to consider in the design and implementation of the new tool.
All comments and suggestions made by participants during the meetings may be subject to a
comprehensive review by Canada.
Canada reserves the right to consider all or part of the comments and suggestions made by the
participants.
Canada will not disclose proprietary or commercially sensitive information to other participants or to third
parties, except and only to the extent required by law.
