Background: The Romans traditionally dated the founding of their city at 753 B.C. The early Republic (507 –
264 B.C.) began after the Etruscans declined. Two years after the removal of Tarquinius, the king of Rome from
616-578 B.C., the triumphant Romans founded the Roman Republic, which was to last for more than 400 years.
