Abu Dhabi Grammar School (Canada) Grade 12 Chemistry 2016 Course Outline Teacher: Ms. Suzy Prerequisite Course: Chemistry 11 Description/Rationale This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to meet the entrance requirements for university programs. It emphasizes both independent research skills and independent learning skills. In addition, it focuses on the concepts and theories that form the basis of modern chemistry. Students will study the quantitative aspect of chemistry through stoichiometric examination; investigate the different forces of attraction involved in matter and how it influences their properties; and explore how organic chemistry is used in developing new products and processes that affect our lives and our environment. Emphasis will also be placed on the importance of chemistry in other branches of science. DO NOT FALL BEHIND Hand in assignments on time EXPECATIONS Students are expected to come to class with the required materials, to use their class time effectively and to focus on the task at hand. Students are expected to take responsibility for their own learning, to attend all classes and to complete homework on a daily basis. When absent, students are responsible for obtaining and completing missed class work. Assignments, lab reports, and projects must be completed and submitted on time. Students are expected to write tests on the predetermined date. ASSIGNMENT POLICY: Assignments are to be ready on the due date assigned by the teacher. A 10% penalty will be applied to assignments for each of the first two days then are late a 100% penalty will be applied on the third day. Assignments are due at the beginning of class. Homework must be completed on a daily basis, as random homework check will be conducted. MISSED TEST It is expected that all students will write unit tests on the assigned test date. Students will be notified of upcoming tests (not quizzes) approximately one week in advance. When a test is missed a student will receive a mark of zero. A make-up test may be given (with the teacher’s discretion) if the student submits a note of explanation (singed by a parent). Students who miss more than one test per term may lose the right to write a make-up test.
