There will be an emphasis on Roman history, culture and mythology. Textbooks: o Ecce Romani Book I, Ecce Romani IA workbook (Latin Intro) o Latin for Americans Book I (Latin I and II) o Latin for Americans Book II (Latin III) o Vergil’s Aeneid, A Vergil Workbook, A Notebook for Vergil’s Aeneid (Latin IV/V) Grading: Required Course Materials: o Grades for this course are figured o Latin textbook on a total points basis. Major o binder (separate or a section just for Latin) components include tests, quizzes, o loose-leaf paper, pencils, highlighters homework, and classwork. o IPAD (fully charged) IPADs: IPADs are to be inside backpacks, UNLESS the teacher requests otherwise. DEMERITS (minimum of 2 – as stated in the handbook) will be issued for unauthorized use of IPADs during instructional time. National/State Level Latin Exams: ALL Latin students will take the National Latin Exam, Classical Literacy Exam, National Mythology Exam, and CAV Latin Exam in the spring. These exams DO NOT count for a grade. Students earn medals and certificates for their performance on these exams. These are great resume builders for college applications! COST: $10.00 – Latin Intro; $20.00 - Latin I, II, III Please send in a check (made out to Walsingham) or cash by September 8th. Labor omnia vincit. Homework: Homework is due at the BEGINNING of the class period. Late homework is NOT accepted. Quizzes and Tests: Quizzes and tests will be announced and posted on SPA in advance. Quizzes and tests are cumulative in nature (grammar and vocabulary from previous chapters will appear – BE PREPARED!). Students will not be allowed to keep copies of tests and quizzes. Make-up Work: It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to see me for make-up work when they return from an absence. For excused absences, all make-up work may be made up according to the student handbook guidelines. Leaving the Classroom: Students should use the restroom before or after class (NOT during class). Students should bring all necessary materials to class. NO LOCKER VISITS. Plan ahead! Food and Drink: Food, drinks (water bottles are ok), candy, and gum are NOT permitted in the classroom. Student Responsibilities: As a student, you have the responsibility to: Listen and learn. Actively participate. Try your best. Invest time outside of class (studying…). Never be afraid to ask for help. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities: Check SPA for upcoming assessments and current grades. Talk to your student about Latin class! Help your student study at home (flip through flashcards, ask them to translate for you...). Call or email me if you have any concerns or questions about your student.
