Mrs. Howg
I received my B ED from the University of
Lethbridge with a major in Drama .
•
I started as the Resource Room Teacher
at General Stewart 23 years ago. I moved
to grade 1 at General Stewart for 4
years.
•
I then had my son and took two years
off. I then moved to Westminster where I
taught grade ½ multiage for five years.
•
Ten I moved to Senator Buchanan where
I taught grade 1-2 multiage for 16 years.
•
•
And now I feel fortunate to be here.
Favourite things include: reading, music
Communication
• Daily agendas
• Monthly newsletter on website

• Doorway visits, after/before school

Home Reading
• Daily reading with parents
• Students exchange books daily
• Please listen to your child read
books or RAZ
• Please continue to enjoy reading
stories and retell stories to you’re
your child when possible
• “Good Fit” books:
• Five Finger Rule
• Child is interested in the book
• Child reads fluently
Spelling
• Students write Weekly Words in
Agendas on Monday
• Students should practice words for
a few minutes each day (say and
spell, TIC TAC TOE, print etc…)
• Test on Friday (used to motivate
practice)
• I am most interested in how they
spell in their own writing
•
(I choose words based on Grade Two Dolch list,
short and long vowels, word families and blends)

• Send home Book orders monthly

Holiday
Celebrations
• We celebrate the following special
days at school: Halloween,
Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter
• Thank you for signing up and
sending healthy snacks like, fruit,
veggies, crackers, cheese, and
cookies or muffins, ONE time
throughout the year.
Daily 5:
-teaching L.A. curriculum while
fostering choice, independence,
confidence, engagement and selfassessment
• Read to Self- students will
eventually read for 30 minutes
(building Stamina)
• Read to Someone
• Listen to Reading
• Work on Writing
• Word Work

for you and recognize patterns at
home and outside (grocery store)
• Repeating patterns and increasing
