Meeting Notes:
Agenda:

Data Classification discussion Golden Gate overview and how this is associated to data
governance.
Notes:



Update on Intent workgroup organization
o Carmen has a list of workgroup members – provided by DGC members
o April 14th meeting
o Workbook has been started by Carmen
o Goal is to complete workbook and have a proposal to DGC
o Will come back in May and discuss results of the workgroup
Data Classification discussion
o Applies to all state agencies
o Classifications guide work around security to apply to data
o SBCTC data services trying to create a definition that applies to the data in the
datawarehouse
o Have some guiding principles
 Data sets with multiple data elements of different classifications = highest level
 Directory information – what about data that is derived off of directory
information
 FERPA lists some directory information
o SBCTC feel like they don’t have level 1 data from colleges – because they would send all
requests back to the colleges. Susan feels like the “can be … released” would put data
into the category, especially when looking at security or what will be shared with other
colleges in the GoldenGate.
o SBCTC working to pull out SSN from any data. Making some changes to data structure.
Golden Gate overview and how this is associated to data governance.
o Data governance because of data classifications and access to data
o GG is replication software from Oracle. Will replicate the PeopleSoft data in near real
time. This is how colleges will have access to all their data.
o Each college district will have their own datamart
o Will also push the datawarehouse data into this datamart
