1 DGC Meeting 11_25_2013

Meeting Notes:

Exit Code Proposal status update

The exit code proposal is ready to go forward for review and approval. In addition to the consulted commissions we have determined that WEC (Workforce Education Council) should be informed and provide their recommendation to IC. Carmen will present at WEC (through the SBCTC agenda time.)

Carmen present at

WEC (2-6/7)

WEC recomends to

IC (2-13/14)

DGC vote in

March (IC reps) (3/6)

Then IC will bring back any feedback to the DGC for a final review.

Sandra will talk to Sharon Buck, Chair of WEC and Laurie Clark, Chair of IC and Carol Lager, IC liaison to

WEC on behalf of the combined IC/WSSSC Data Governors to make them aware and get this on agendas.

Carmen will modify the exit code proposal to include contact information. She sent out a powerpoint that is available for people to use as they present to commissions. All Data Governors should schedule a few minutes during their winter session to share this ppt with their commission.

Prior Learning Credit coding and the Registrar workgroup

SBCTC and HECB policy on prior learning assessment was created many years ago. What qualifies, how do you assess, how to get credits, etc. It’s a direct transcription of credits. Asked Carmen how to code so it could be tracked. Presidents want it to LOOK like regular class – not called out, but accreditation says it should be noted. New workgroup in ARC has been working on this recently, however it’s on IC’s workplan. Registrars brought up some issues with the coding. What YRQ is assigned? Needs a valid grade for transfer to 4 years – not a Pass/Fail. Patrick Brown – Registrar at Bates is spearheading the workgroup. Carmen has spoken to him. Since this is on IC’s workplan we determined that the accountable commission is IC. WSSSC and the registrars need to be included as consulted commissions.

Some of the courses would be state funded courses, where a student may be enrolled in a course and meet the learning outcomes a different way (like exam).

Carmen discussed this with Jan Yoshiwara who would like a workgroup to review the procedure / coding piece. There is a group working on the policy piece. This group would consist of: o The workgroup of registrars already working with Patrick Brown on coding o IC and WSSSC Data Governors o Robin – who has been on the PLA policy group o Carmen (will work with Scott Copeland to gather information) o IC will talk to ATC to get some people to participate.
