Andrew Jackson was elected president in 1828.
He ran against John Quincy Adams (John’s son)
It was a very dirty race.
Jackson accused him of being a drunk and using public
money improperly. (This was untrue)
Adams accused Jackson of being a crude and ignorant man
not fit to be president. (He came from humble beginnings)
Jackson, a war hero, was popular with every day Americans
who elected him.
The rich, who were used to running the country, did not
support him.
He was a controversial president who was both loved and
hated.
