Our Scholastic Book Fair is always a popular event
and we know that everyone is looking forward to this
year’s Fair in the DeBeck Library. We apologize for
the inconvenience, but in order to ensure that we were
fully prepared for this year’s event, Mrs. Cramer, who
works very hard to make our Book Fairs such a
wonderful experience for all, and our team felt it best
to hold the first Book Fair at a later date in December.
We also enjoyed learning about Panechates (Pan-aHat-Iss) - a mummified 10-year-old Egyptian boy
who was donated by Dr. G.E. Kidd in 1922. Dr. G.E.
Kidd bought Panechates from a store in Luxor,
Egypt. Also at the Museum we explored a JapaneseCanadian history section. Overall this was an
amazingly, awesome learning experience!
Stay tuned for more details about our Book
Fair in the next DeBeck Newsletter.

“Gardening With Ian” Program
Blossoming in the Fall At DeBeck
Once again Ian Lai is working with a number of our
classes with hands-on lessons on urban gardening, local
produce and environmental sustainability. Thanks to
our PAC for once again sponsoring this exciting
learning experience for our students.
On Tuesday October 6, Division 2 went to the Richmond
Public Library. It was an awesome experience at the
Library! We learned how to download eBooks on our
tablets, phones, and computers, using an app called
“Overdrive”. We got to see the way the librarians
organize books; and the different technological machines
they use to make their jobs easier. There was one
particular machine, called the “3D Printer”, which really
caught our attention. It made figures by melting long
sticks of plastic, and creating figures with the melted
plastic. We also received library cards; and are now able
to borrow books from the library. Overall, our experience
was quite amazing!

Excursion to the Museum of Vancouver
Division 2 had a fantastic time as archeologists,
exploring the Museum of Vancouver (M.O.V.). We
took the bus and Canada line to and from the
Museum of Vancouver, where we enjoyed doing an
archeology dig, and attended a conference of
archeologists where we presented ancient artifacts.
Over 35 DeBeck students from grades 1 to 7
represented our school with pride and
enthusiasm at the annual Richmond Cross
Country Fun Run which was held on October
14h this year. Our students demonstrated
excellent ROARS behaviour and showed
outstanding determination in all races, with
many top 20 finishes. Thanks to Mr. Kripps for
joining us at this year’s Fun Run and to all of
teachers who have sponsored our Kilometer
Club runners this year. Way to go Dragons!
