To be an accident-free work area. To make a bigger impact on Northern High Point. Long-Term Goals: To retire in 5 years. To remain owner of the building so he receives rent. To hand down business to Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Pilsher. To keep 75% of the long-standing customers after he hands down business. To acquire new customers in the Northern High Point community To continue customer excellence for Teddy. 9 Elizabeth Dickerson Strengths of Organization: Oak Hollow Body Shop prides itself on the personal service that it gives its customers. Oak Hollow Body Shop knows almost 100% of its customers personally. Oak Hollow Body Shop knows its customers well and this keeps them coming back. Their customers know they will be treated personally and special and not just as a number. Oak Hollow Body Shop truly cares about the customer and their best interest. Oak Hollow Body Shop acquires relationships with their customers and are willing to help them no matter their financial situation. In addition, Oak Hollow Body Shop has been doing auto-body work since the 1970’s, so they have built a strong brand and one that their customer’s trust. Challenges of Organization: Oak Hollow Body Shop is a thriving business with a good brand, however they are only known by a certain amount of the High Point community. Many times when people need auto-body repair, they just go to the nearest place on Main Street because that seems easiest. Oak Hollow Body Shop needs a way to market their business to its locals. 10 Elizabeth Dickerson Existing Competitors: Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting 108 Westover Drive High Point, NC Phone: (888) 636-1855 Larry Walker & Sons Body Shop 5915 Surret Drive High Point, NC Phone: (336) 861-4543 High Point Body & Paint 1300 Park Street High Point, NC Phone: (336) 882-4400 Mike’s Paint & Body Shop 1607 Baker Road High Point, NC Phone: (336) 431-3824 Rich Automotive 1127 Eastchester Drive High Point, NC Phone: (336) 887-6435 11 Elizabeth Dickerson Government and Regulatory Agencies: High Point Fire Department 434 S Elm St High Point, NC 27260 Phone: (336) 883-3358 Website: http://www.highpointnc.gov/fire/ Internal Revenue Service (IRS) (Federal) P.O. Owner Employees Customers High Point Community Future Customers Oversight Guidance Existence Existence Existence I I E E E 12 Elizabeth Dickerson Opportunity Client Statement: Oak Hollow Body shop has been around for 41 years and is going to be around for many more years. It is one of the most reliable and customer friendly body shops in the High point area. Through their extensive knowledge of automobiles and their strong ties with customers, it allows those in the high point community to not only receive the best service for their cars but also excellent customer service in a timely manner. Oak Hollow Body shop is a strong auto shop company and has built many lasting ties with their clients. Although this organization is successful, I believe with a few different marketing strategies there is opportunity to have more of High Point’s community members go to Oak Hollow Body Shop as their regular auto-repair shop. David Horne has built a great brand for Oak Hollow Body Shop, but it has the potential to reach a wider audience by sharing this with the Northern side of High Point, by expanding his customer base. An opportunity exists for Oak Hollow Body Shop in expanding its customer base to Northern High Point. I wish to reach at least half of the Northern High Point population. I can do this by informing those unfamiliar in Northern High Point about the excellent customer service, strong attention to detail in their work and the goal behind the brand. By educating Northern High Point of the benefits of using a small business body shop versus a commercial body shop, will in-turn give Oak Hollow Body Shop more Northern High Point customers. 13 Elizabeth Dickerson Target Public Description and Defense: Oak Hollow Body Shop’s target public chosen for this plan will be Northern High Point’s community. High Point itself has 104,394 residents. The Northern High Point community has 41,985 residents, which is 40% of High Point’s community as a whole. The target pubic would be considered external because although some of Northern High Point know about the business, there are still more people to make aware. The people of Northern High Point would be an exceptional group to work with as they value the idea of a company with strong values, hard work ethic, the importance of building lasting bonds with local history. It is good for the people of Northern High Point to choose Oak Hollow Body Shop, but the reason it is good for Oak Hollow Body Shop because Northern High Point is where the middle to upper-class income resides with households with 2 or more cars. So, by making this side of High Point aware of the benefits of choosing Oak Hollow Body Shop, the company would have more customers with insurance and more customers who have the desire to fix their cars up well for a good price. Northern High Point’s people could help the Oak Hollow Body Shop gain the customer base it wishes to achieve while maintaining its relationships within the community. http://www.city-data.com/income/income-High-Point-North-Carolina.html Target Public Demographics: The Target public chosen for this plan is Northern High Point as they are a vital aspect to the existence and growth of the company. The majority of the community is around 30 years and up. These members of High Point are on their own and looking for a company that not only fits their auto needs but also allows them to build a strong lasting relationship with. By working with this target public, Oak Hollow Body Shop will not only gain a higher client base but they will build the client base that they want and the bonds they desire with the people of Northern High Point. http://www.city-data.com/income/income-High-Point-North-Carolina.html 14 Elizabeth Dickerson Target Public Psychographics: Achievers: Motivated by the desire for achievement, Achievers have goal-oriented lifestyles and a deep commitment to career and family. Their social lives reflect this focus and are structured around family, their place of worship, and work. Achievers live conventional lives, are politically conservative, and respect authority and the status quo. They value consensus, predictability, and stability over risk, intimacy, and self-discovery. With many wants and needs, Achievers are active in the consumer marketplace. Image is important to Achievers; they favor established, prestige products and services that demonstrate success to their peers. Because of their busy lives, they are often interested in a variety of time-saving devices. http://www.strategicbusinessinsights.com/vals/ustypes/achievers.shtml Survivors: Survivors live narrowly focused lives. Because they have few resources with which to cope, they often believe that the world is changing too quickly. They are comfortable with the familiar and are primarily concerned with safety and security. Because they must focus on meeting needs rather than fulfilling desires, Survivors do not show a strong primary motivation. Survivors are cautious consumers. They represent a very modest market for most products and services. They are loyal to favorite brands, especially if they can purchase them at a discount. http://www.strategicbusinessinsights.com/vals/ustypes/survivors.shtml 15 Elizabeth Dickerson Defense of Psychographics: The Achievers label is appropriate because High Point is a small town and has families that have been there for many generations. Due to families residing in High Point for many generations it allows parents to introduce Oak Hollow Body Shop to their children and other family members. The people of Northern High Point value companies that have earned their respect. Northern High Point’s people have worked hard to get where they are and deserve a company like Oak Hollow Body Shop fulfilling their auto-body needs. Oak Hollow Body Shop is one of those and just needs more recognition. Northern High Point’s people are old-fashioned and value tradition. The Survivors label is appropriate because of the age of the target public. Northern High Point’s people want consistency when it comes to most things, especially when it comes to car service. This psychographic is relevant because survivors are loyal and so are Oak Hollow Body Shop’s customers and future customers. Strategic Research Design: Through this public relations plan, primary research about the Northern High Point’s members will be conducted, to gather data on how to market the event best and to gather data necessary to achieve the short-term and long-term goals of the Oak Hollow Body Shop. I will also do research on Oak Hollow Body Shop’s competitors and their marketing and public relations strategies used to bring in a larger desired customer base. This new knowledge of the High Point community and new marketing strategies will be implemented to create informational flyers for the Oak Hollow Body Shop. Budget Information: My budget for this plan will be $2000. 16 Elizabeth Dickerson Section Two: Strategic Planning Detail 17 Elizabeth Dickerson Communication Objective: To inform as many people of Northern High Point possible about the benefits of choosing Oak Hollow Body Shop. Through the right marketing and through this proposal it will educate the community of Northern High Point about the history of Oak Hollow Body Shop. The primary goal is informational because I wish to educate Northern High Point on why they should choose Oak Hollow Body Shop versus a commercial auto-repair shop. The secondary goal is behavioral because I want the people of Northern High Point to use Oak Hollow Body Shop as their primary autorepair shop. This will take place starting, March 6th, 2015 and ending March 6th, 2016. By informing the Northern High Point community about the specific expertise and care that the Oak Hollow Body Shop provides to its customers, it will allow the company to reach some of its short and long-term goals. Once these goals are met it will allow for Oak Hollow Body Shop’s David Horne to reach his long-term goal of retiring and passing down the business to Teddy Pilsner and his wife. To achieve these objectives I will hold a benefit at the local Elks Lodge. It will be a casual affair with a buffet. At the benefit I will count how many people came and how many received a flyer and business card. A month after the benefit, I will calculate how many more customers came in the shop than before the benefit. At the end of the year I will calculate the number of customers from Northern High Point that have used the shop. The goal is to have the projected target public be in the final numbers. Message: 18 Elizabeth Dickerson “Years of work by me for the customers.” This message appeals to Oak Hollow Body Shop’s target public because they are simple and appreciate any long history in a local company. The ‘me’ is David Horne since he is the spokesperson. Horne is also a simple man and would appreciate and want to share this message to the people of Northern High Point. As achievers, they favor businesses with years of work under their belt and care about tradition. This slogan is all about tradition because it shows that nothing will change within his work. This message also shows his care for the customers, that his work is not just for profit but also for the best of his customers. Spokesperson: The elected spokesperson will be David Horne, the owner and founder of Oak Hollow Body Shop. Horne received his B.A. in Business Administration from Appalachian State University and since then has put his entrepreneurial and business skills towards real estate and Oak Hollow Body Shop. Oak Hollow Body Shop began in 1974 when Horne was just 20 years old. Oak Hollow Body Shop was originally a building Horne bought for him to rent out to people, but then he created Oak Hollow Body Shop and has loved working in it ever since. David Horne connects to the target public demographics because he is the one who has worked for 41 years to get Oak Hollow Body Shop where it is today. The people of Northern High Point will respect David Horne and his journey with Oak Hollow Body Shop. Horne also connects well with achievers and survivors because he resonates with those two psychographics himself. Horne is constantly at work to be successful for himself but especially his community and as for Oak Hollow Body Shop he keeps it highly prioritized. Spokes Entity: 19 Elizabeth Dickerson “Years of work by me for the customers.” This is a great spokes entity for Oak Hollow Body Shop as it connects strongly to the target public as the company is traditional and hardworking like the people of the Northern High Point Community. Because Oak Hollow Body shop has been around for over 40 years this will give the Northern High Point community guaranteed excellence and personal customer service. David Horne has strong relationships with current customers and wishes to establish this with his future customers. This entity shows a hard-working man with the tools necessary to do a quick but excellent job on his customer’s cars. Horne thrives on his speedy attention to detail. Survivors and achievers care about all these qualities when deciding what business to use. When the target public sees this message and spokes entity, they will see the tradition and mission of Oak Hollow Body Shop. 20 Elizabeth Dickerson Section Three: Communication Tactics Event Description: 21 Elizabeth Dickerson The administrative staff and employees of Oak Hollow Body Shop partner with the Elks Lodge of High Point to complete a banquet that is held in the ballroom of the Elks Lodge. The event will take place from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on August 22nd, 2015. It is important to have this event to connect Northern High Point with the spokesperson, David Horne so they can meet him and learn about the benefits of using Oak Hollow Body Shop. It is also important for the people of Northern High Point to connect with Teddy Pilsher who is the future owner of Oak Hollow Body Shop. As the Elks Lodge has a kitchen, their food and drinks will be provided. In addition to the banquet, spokesperson and owner, David Horne will give a speech during the event. The speech will consist of the history and mission of Oak Hollow Body Shop; it will inform the Northern High Point guests that using a small business with many years of experience is betterment to them and their community. The spokes entity will be mentioned as it shows the fast and hard work that Oak Hollow Body Shop provides to its specially cared for customers. This event will be paid for by the budget provided for this Public Relations plan. The target public will receive information about this event by flyers put out around the Northern High Point Community and word of mouth by the owner and employees of Oak Hollow Body Shop. A Press Release and newsletter will be sent to the High Point Enterprise about the event. Through the High Point Enterprise, competitors and clients will be notified about the success of the event. Event Rationale: 22 Elizabeth Dickerson The main purpose of the banquet is to connect and educate the target public about the workmanship and story behind Oak Hollow Body Shop, as well as encourage the people of Northern High Point to choose Oak Hollow Body Shop as their primary autobody repair shop. This banquet gives the target public the opportunity to learn about a successful, local small business that can benefit them and the opportunity to also start a close owner-client relationship. This event will also allow give current and future customers the opportunity to get to know the future owner, Teddy Pilsher. The event will be designed to reach out to Achievers and Survivors. Achievers are deeply committed to their career and family, their social lives even strictly involve family, work and their place of worship. Since Achievers have such busy lives, they value timesaving actions. When learning about Oak Hollow Body through this banquet, the target public will value this company and most likely understand the perks of using this company versus a commercial auto-body shop or any other auto-body shop for that matter. Achievers also care about brands that are established, Oak Hollow Body Shop fits this because it has been around for over 40 years. Survivors believe the world is advancing too fast and they prefer tradition and familiarity. Survivors can count on Oak Hollow Body Shop to provide them with car service that is simple to access. The Elks Lodge is a fitting location as it is in the Northern part of High Point and appeals to the target public because it is close and has an intimate space for David Horne and Teddy Pilsher to get to know their future customers. The ballroom has a projection screen and microphone where Horne can give his informational and emotional speech about Oak Hollow Body Shop. With all of the resources provided by the Elks Lodge, the banquet will accomplish many of the short and long-term goals desired. Partner Rationale: High Point Elks Lodge #1155 will partner with Oak Hollow Body Shop to connect Oak Hollow Body Shop with its target public. The target public being the people of Northern High Point, it is best to use a location in Northern High Point like the Elks Lodge. Many of the people in Northern High Point are already familiar with the High Point Elks Lodge, so this location will be efficient to use. The ballroom in the Elks Lodge is the right size and has the right resources for the event that will take place. Publicity: 27 Elizabeth Dickerson Controlled E-mail reminders to employees Verbal reminders to employees Printed flyers Printed brochures Uncontrolled Press release Word of mouth News coverage (post-event) from local media Budget: The budget for this plan is $2,000. $1,700 will be allotted to the banquet, covering the rented room space, food, and paying Elks Lodge event staff. $50 will be allotted to the making of the banquet flyers.
