STUDY ABROAD OFFICE PROGRAM ASSISTANT APPLICATION 2014-2015 JOB DESCRIPTION Objectives: Serve as an ambassador of the Study Abroad Office (SAO) & international education at the University of Illinois Enthuse, inform, and advise students on opportunities and procedures for study abroad Encourage students to explore study abroad programs relevant to their academic, personal & professional goals Requirements: Registered student at the University of Illinois and in good academic standing Completion of an SAO-Illinois study abroad program Strong communication and public speaking skills Time management skills; ability to multitask and work well under pressure Computer skills, including e-mail, word processing, blogging, web design, spreadsheets, and social media Professional demeanor, excellent customer service, and ability to work well in teams Ability to memorize program details in a short amount of time Polite, patient, flexible, open-minded, and cheerful Responsibilities: Conduct walk-in advising in the Resource Room to advise students, parents, staff, faculty, and visitors on study abroad opportunities & answer general questions about SAO Assist students with program selection, advising throughout the application process, and provide information on financial aid & scholarships Manage the general SAO email account, answer incoming phone calls, and schedule appointments Monitor and update the SAO website, including program brochure pages Conduct various recruitment/ outreach activities (i.e. class visits, presentations) and promote these activities (creating distributing flyers on campus, chalking, etc.) Maintain projects associated with outreach (i.e. newsletter writing, residence-life bulletin board design, update social media pages, etc.) Assist with occasional office tasks, including copying, filing, mailing, typing, and running errands, as needed Mandatory Time Requirements: Available to interview the weeks of July 14th & 21st for the position (Skype may be utilized, if necessary) Availability to work 7-9 hours per week for Resource Room advising, as well as additional hours to work events outside of regular office hours Attendance at all-day Peer Advisor training during the week of August 18th and Quad Day on August 24th Additional Information: Starting salary for this position is $9.50 per hour; preference may be given to students who are eligible to receive federal work-study.
