SCNP Program Updates – Aug 21, 2012 Below is a list of program updates to be sent out to Local Clubs to keep them in the loop. These will be put onto our FAQ section of the website. We hope to do this periodically and increase the frequency of our communication to our Local Clubs! Reaching out for donations/discounts/favors from CF HQ, Reebok, Rogue, Again Faster, and some of the other high-level organizations: We want to be very careful in managing our relationship with them and not asking for too much, so we ask that the Local Clubs NOT contact them directly. If each Local Club asks for something, Steve’s Club National Program gets the reputation for asking for a lot of favors, and it makes us seem disorganized in our efforts We want to do what’s best for the National Program, and we have had a number of conversations with these high level organizations to figure out how to get them involved. When in doubt, ask us before approaching sponsor. We might have greater leverage by having SCNP ask them directly. Comp/Discount Certifications: Again, please do not contact anyone in CF HQ or certification staff to ask for discounts or comp spots. Local CF Affiliates that host a certification might have a “comp” spot granted to them – if you know the Affiliate owners, then use your discretion to ask if they have a comp spot they’d be willing to give you. You can use your non-profit funding to help defray the cost of sending a trainer to CF Kids (but not to the L1 Cert). If you have a dedicated Steve’s Club athlete who would like to become a L1 CrossFit certified, SCNP will help make this happen. Videos: Videos are great for social media purposes, and even the ones shot on a flipcam or iPhone are good. Don’t feel like you need to use your funding to make the highest quality videos. If you decide you really want to make a high-quality video about your program, SCNP will consider paying up to 50% of the cost. (You must send us the proposal and cost prior to shooting, and we’d ask to include a few slides to help promote the overall National Program). We can recommend 2 videographers in the NJ/NY area, but videographers in your area are fine too. Articles, Blog Posts, CF Journal: The more you can write about your program, or get local media to feature your program, the better! SCNP will promote your Local Club as much as possible on our SCNP blog and Facebook page. SCNP has a part-time writer who will write SCNP blog posts about your Local Club, and do Athlete Profiles on some of your youth. We encourage you to send us info on your athletes and your program as much as possible. The easiest way to do this is through Facebook, but you can also email us directly. If you want to submit an article to the CF Journal, please submit the article to us first and we will submit it to our contact there (you will still be the author). Tshirts, Shoes, Gear: You can create Tshirts, hats, backpacks, etc. for your Local Club from your funding. You can use whatever design and vendor you’d like. (Just make sure the kids “earn” the gear!) Shoe and gear donations from Reebok – they have been generous in providing things for the kids, and we plan to approach them for a big donation during Thanksgiving/Christmas so we can distribute gear to kids. Donations of Products/Services/Equipment: Again, please don’t approach Rogue, Again Faster, or any of the other “toplevel” sponsors or vendors. SCNP already has a relationship with them, and we want to approach them on a national level. Local businesses are a GREAT source of donations. This can include donation of services, goods, food, gear, gift certificates, etc. If you’re hosting an event, this would be the first place to start! Donations of goods and services can be tax-deductible – you’d fill out the “Donation Receipt Letter” from our Member Resources page to give to them. You’ll have to estimate the “fair market value” (the equivalent dollar amount) of their donation. Remember - if equipment is donated to the non-profit, it can ONLY be used by the at-risk kids (it must serve the mission of the non-profit and can’t be used for other purposes). When in doubt, ask us before approaching sponsor. We might have greater leverage by having SCNP ask them directly. Selling PaleoKits to help fund your program: To help you make some extra money to fund your program, Local Clubs are now able to purchase quantities of 100 products or more from Steve’s Original (www.stevesoriginal.com) at 30% discount to re-sell at retail prices to gym members. You must pay for the products up front, and can keep the proceeds (however, this is still considered a donation and would require 5% deduction for SCNP membership fee). Place your order at www.stevesoriginal.com (you must order at least 100 products) and upon checkout use the promocode: LOCALCLUB Please don't share the promocode with others, since this is a very special discount, and we ask that the admins/trainers of the Local Club place the order (so we know the promocode is not being misused). Adding a donation to a member’s monthly bill: This is a great way to raise money for your program. Perhaps consider asking the CF Affiliate owners if they would offer their members the option of adding a few dollars onto the monthly membership fee. At the end of each month (or several months), they write a check for the accumulated amount. Other fundraisers: Feel free to do other fundraisers throughout the year – car washes, paleo bake sales, dollar-for-dollar matching campaigns, food drives, holiday donations, etc. Sending your kids to competitions: If there are local competitions (especially teen/youth competitions), please consider registering them. It is great for so many reasons, both for the esteem/commitment of that athlete but also for increasing the visibility of your program. If your athletes are not ready to compete, consider bringing them to spectate a local event. Mentorship, Nutrition, Values, etc. We are making a bigger push in this area. Please see the Member Resources page (http://www.stevesclub.org/local_clubs/member_resources/ ) for the following: o “Earn It” Rewards Program for your athletes o Career Day Questions - members of a CF Affiliate talk about their careers and answer Q&A for your athletes o Goal Setting session – a 20 min exercise to help your athletes set goals o Nutrition session (coming soon!) - a 30 min workshop to address nutrition for your athletes o Book club (coming soon!)– suggested reading list for athletes and coaches o Assessment for SC Athletes – please give this to your athletes periodically as a benchmark. It includes fitness, nutrition, esteem, values, etc. We plan to do more in terms of measuring outcomes when working with athletes, and getting a baseline assessment will be important. Please find ways to creatively incorporate our SCNP Values into your program (you can find our Values here: http://www.stevesclub.org/about/) We are also planning to roll out a Local Club Scorecard (coming soon!) to help track measures of success for each program. It’s intended to be a tool to help you manage your Local Club, and we plan to have SCNP grants to give additional funding to the best performing Clubs.
