WEST PARK CIVIC
ASSOCIATION
Summer 2014
President’s Message
Brunch in the Park, held on Sunday May 19, was a wonderful event, complete with live music by Sydnie
Keddington, delicious food, and WPCA camaraderie. The next brunch will be October 5th. June will undoubtedly
be West Park’s busiest month. On the 21st, WPCA will host 40th annual Art-In-The-Park with more than 95
artists already registered. Musical events will be provided throughout the day.
June 22 will be the 32nd annual
House Tour. This year’s tour promises to be the most distinctive tour to date. We have assembled a unique
combination of properties, featuring historic West Park mansions, stately townhouses, and beautiful gardens. We
are pleased to partner with Two City Center Lehigh Valley and Jaindl Properties to showcase the renaissance
unfolding downtown. On the evening of June 22nd West Park will be the site for a reservation-only lobster bake
catered by Bolete. For tickets, please contact Bolete Restaurant (610-868-6505 or bolete2@gmail.com).A special
thanks to those who helped with The West Park cleanup April 26th, and the First Annual Cherry Blossom Festival
held at Cedar Beach on April 26. The new Art-In-The-Park t-shirts were well received. Get yours while supplies
last. Special thanks to Rob and Peggy Egolf, Kory Frank, Nancy Jensen, and Mar Haeussler for helping set up
and staff the West Park Civic Association booth. We are still looking for volunteers to set up and tear down for
Art-In-The-Park and house sitters for the House Tour. Please see attached contact information.
We would like to extend a special thanks to our friends at old Allentown Preservation Association for including
WPCA in their street fair which took place on Saturday, May 10th. Look forward to seeing you at WPCA June
events. Please bring a friend or neighbor.
Sincerely,
Tom Yuracka,
President West Park Civic Association

11:30am The Repertory Dance Theatre
12:30 The Allen High School Double String Quartet
1:30pm The Allentown Band
3pm Arizona Lights, a rock band from Philadelphia
4pm The Brotherhood of the Jug Band Blues, a Brooklyn based collective of jug band,
country blues, and old time music.
Each year 3,500+ patrons enjoy the art show. Art-in-the-Park is a FREE art show and is handicap accessible.
Art-in-the-Park is run by loyal volunteers from the West Park Civic Association. There are many ways you
can help make Art-in-the-Park 2014 a huge success. Encourage new artists to participate, be a sponsor, help
secure ads from local businesses, distribute posters, or help the day of the art show by setting up screens, serving
the coffee and donuts to the artists, helping artists set up, passing out art show programs at one of the park’s
entrances, and/or helping to tear down at the end of the show. As always, Art-in-the-Park sincerely appreciates
all of your help! Art-in-the-Park thanks the Church of the Mediator for setting up their famous hot dog/bake
good stand on the church’s front lawn.
New this year was Art-in-the-Park’s poster contest which was open to adult and student (grades 9-12) artists.
The winning illustration was by Lee Baldwin, of Allentown, a professional artist of portraits, landscapes, murals,
and custom orders specializing in watercolors, pen &ink, and charcoal. Mr. Baldwin has exhibited at Art-in-thePark for many years.
If you would like to volunteer or need more information, please call Peggy Egolf 610-434-0657 or email

PLEASE UPDATE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS
It is a part of our mission to disseminate
information that is important and useful to our
members in a timely manner. One way we do this
is to send occasional emails to our membership,
such as crime specific to the neighborhood,
meetings of special interest, events or programs.
In order to accomplish this goal, we need your
updated email address. We promise not to abuse
this information. You will not be getting daily
spam.
We are also adding a line to our membership
application that will give you the option of
receiving your newsletters electronically. Mailing
the newsletter can be expensive as there are specific
USPS guidelines we must follow to be eligible for
bulk mail rates. Perhaps we can save some money
and help the environment by delivering as many as
possible by email. This is a work in progress.
